Henly arrives to provide keeper cover

Oxford United have drafted in Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Henly on a one-month youth loan deal.

The 19-year-old arrives at the Kassam Stadium as United’s second and third-choice shot-stoppers Max Crocombe and Wayne Brown are currently ruled out through injury.

Brown, 36, is still recovering from a broken ankle, while New Zealand Under-20 international Crocombe has picked up a minor shoulder injury.

The 20-year-old is currently working with a specialist after being told to rest in order to recover from the short-term problem.

So Henly, who has been with the Royals since he was ten years-old, signs for the Us as Ryan Clarke’s understudy for the next month.

The 6ft 4 keeper, who has represented Scotland at Under-19 level, enjoyed a similar loan spell at Conference outfit Aldershot Town, where Henly made one appearance for the Shots in their 1-1 draw against Chester.

The young shot-stopper is yet to make his senior debut at the Madejski Stadium, but he has however featured on the Reading bench against Division One sides Everton and Aston Villa.

Henly completed the paperwork in time to be part of United’s squad alongside fellow new signing Nicky Wroe when Oxford host Portsmouth tomorrow afternoon at the Kassam Stadium.
