“The Roofe has been hired!”

Oxford United are thrilled to announce the signing of Kemar Roofe for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old forward joined the Yellows on loan from Division One outfit West Bromwich Albion back in February, scoring six goals in his final seven games of the season.

However; Roofe’s contract expires at The Hawthorns this summer, and despite interest from a number of higher league clubs, the winger has put pen to paper on a three-year-deal at the Kassam Stadium.

Roofe, who was nominated for League Two’s Player of the Month for April, reveals the Yellow supporters played a huge part in his decision: “It was an easy decision.

“Not only have I enjoyed my football at Oxford and been made to feel really welcome but I have also seen how ambitious the club are.

“We finished last season really strongly, the bulk of that side will be here next season and there is a really positive atmosphere around the whole club.

“The fans played a big part as well. They have been great with me and I would love to be part of a team that brings them the success they deserve.”

United head coach Michael Appleton, who previously worked with Roofe at West Brom as manager, was similarly delighted: “He did really well last season.

“He is quick, he has an eye for goal and he does things defenders aren’t expecting, which is always going to make him dangerous.

“He got better with every game and I honestly believe there is more to come from him so it is an excellent signing for the club.

“Everywhere I have gone people have been asking if there was any chance we could get him here on a permanent deal so I am sure the fans will be excited that he will be an Oxford player next season.”
