I think he often contributes to the Guardian Knowledge with Oxford United related trivia. Does he (or did he) post on here, or was involved in fanzines etc? I recognise the name.
Yes, he used to co-edit Raging Bull back in the day. And post on here subsequently, but not recently. He featured in Private Eye a while back, exposing Chess writer (and Grandmaster) Raymond 'The Penguin' Keene as a plagiarist.

He also used to play in goal for Raging Fever FC and once got punched out by a meathead playing for the Leicester fans team.

This weekend was the 50th anniversary of Trevor Francis's first goal for Birmingham City.
[TL:DR 12 September 1970. Francis was 16, it was his first start for City and scored against Oxford United at St Andrews with Mick Kearns in goal. The match finished 1-1]

Predicted to achieve great things, Luke Garbutt was one of the first names on the U17 team sheet. 
The left-back progressed through Everton's youth ranks and made his first-team debut as a substitute for Phil Jagielka in a Capital One Cup win over Leyton Orient back in August 2012. 
However, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter in the Toffees squad and was sold to Blackpool in 2020.  Garbutt was also capped once for the Under 21s, in a 6-0 win over Scotland at Bramall Lane in 2013.
