Have you never heard of Asa Hartford and the hole in his heart? I guess it's a generation thing!

I'd remembered him for the League Cup Final winner the year before our big day out, but I must admit the failed Leeds transfer was all news to me!

Turns out that 'Asa' was just a nickname for him though, he was actually born a 'Richard'...so, maybe our boy IS unique..?

Those of a certain generation will remember Mr Hartford unfortunately being described as a &quotwholehearted player&quot.

Anyone do any urban history: Asa Briggs's Victorian Cities?

There is, apparently, an Asa Charlton who has had an inglorious career based mainly around the Midlands (about 15 clubs in 15 years) including a few in the Football League for Mansfield. Apparently he lost favour at one club when he dropped a beer barrel on his toe!*
