9th February 1994 - United dramatically defeat Leeds United 3-2 at Elland Road after extra time
with the winning goal coming after a sublime chip over Whites 'keeper Mark Beeney from
gifted midfielder Jim Magilton. This 4th round replay meant the U's faced Chelsea in
Round five at the Manor.

The euphoria quickly evaporated as hours after the brilliant victory, United decided to sell
prized asset Magilton to Southampton for GBP 600,000 after the midfielder revealed
he would not sign a new contract. Magilton appeared 173 times in yelllow and blue
and scored 42 goals.

Henry Winter, for the Telegraph, wrote "the Manor Ground switchboard was immediately
inundated with calls from indignant supporters."

10th February 2015 - Michael Appleton's struggling U's travelled to East Lancashire to
face Accrington Stanley on a cold Tuesday night. The attendance of 1,065 remains the lowest
ever league attendance to witness an Oxford United match. To make matters worse a
defensive error in the 90th minute saw Terry Gornell net the winner for Accy.

United - Clarke; Brindley, Mullins, Wright, Skarz; MacDonald, Collins, Ruffels, O'Dowda; Hoban, Hylton

11th February 1966 - The U's travelled to Cumberland - as it was called then - for a
FRIDAY NIGHT fixture at Borough Park, Workington. The long journey may have taken its toll
as this third division fixture ended in a 2-1 win for the Reds. Workington also won
the return match at the Manor 2-0 a few weeks later.

Just eleven years later, in June 1977 - at the Football League AGM at the Cafe Royal, London - of the
club's seeking re-election, Workington were voted out of the football league after
many years of struggle.

They were replaced by Wimbledon and Workington were relegated to the Northern Premier League.

More than 3,000 U's fans saw Roy Barry's side take
on a talented Coventry who took a very late first half lead
and ended up 4-0 winners. Coventry's big strikers Mark Hateley and
Garry Thompson each bagged a brace. One month later
saw both Wright and Cassells leave the Manor for Southampton.

14th February 1981 - United, under Ian Greaves lose 2-1 at Saltergate with Peter Foley notching for
the U's. Whilst disappointed to lose at Chesterfield for the second time that season (the first loss
came in the League Cup) this was the final match Oxford lost that season in their
battle for third division survival. Ian Greaves lost just three of the final 21 games as
the team stayed up against all the odds.

The 1980-181 season saw the the lowest average home attendance in the clubs' history -
just 4,132,

United - Burton; Doyle, Cooke, Briggs, Fogg; Jones, Jeffrey, Thomas, Smithers; Foley, Cassells

22nd February 2003 - Ian Atkins' U's left it late to win at Plainmoor, Torquay
with two late goals from striker Lee Steele. Andy Scott with the first goal for United.
This win marked the start of a charge towards a play-off spot but
ultimately the U's fell just short on the final day.

Torquay featured former U's Kevin Dearden, Simon Clist, David Woozley
and Arjan van Heusden (on the bench).

United - Woodman; McNiven, Waterman, Crosby, Bound, Robinson; Savage, R.Ford, Hunt; Basham, Scott.

I'm not sure I'd describe a run of four wins in 14 as a 'charge towards a play-off spot'. If memory serves me correct, rather than charge, we battoned up the hatches and tried desperately to hold on to what we had. Except we lost it.

Now this season. This could be a charge towards the play-offs. Great win last night.

Good old Atkins - keeping Whitehead and Powell on the bench while introducing Louis and Hunter into the fray! Mind you it worked that game - quite a stirring finale iirc. I concur with Dan about the rest of that season's run-in though.

I remember that Torquay game. I actually felt quite embarrassed that we won - we were awful except for the last few minutes. The Atkins era really was abysmal.

23rd February 2016 - The U's promotion bandwagon rolled into Exeter three days after
a surprise 2-1 home reverse to Accrington. The original game was postponed due to
a waterlogged pitch earlier that month. Utd soon set about Exeter bursting into a 2-0
half time lead through Dunkley's header and Bowery latching on to Lundstram's
superb pass after a midfield break. Further goals followed for MacDonald and Bowery (both
headers from corners). Exeter replied through striker Alex Nicholl's in what was under pressure
Paul Tisdale's 500th match in charge of the Grecians

United - Buchel; Kenny, Mullins, Dunkley, Skarz; MacDonald, Sercombe, Lundstram, O'Dowda;
Bowery, Maguire.
