Karl Robinson
If I had any money, I'd put it on Karl Robinson.
What's scary is that he is a YEAR YOUNGER than me. I hope he'll be better at saving us from Div 2 then he looks at saving himself from Type 2...

Looking like some light at the end of the tunnel here... our first manager born in the 80s. How old does that make you feel?!

James Corden has let himself go ...
I think he'd be a good choice, he had a big role in getting MK Dons into the Championship, and developed Dele Alli

Re: Karl Robinson
Now confirmed as the new OUFC manager.
Re: Karl Robinson
...not. And maybe a better appointment for that.

Re: Karl Robinson
Let’s hope so.
It took him 3 seasons to get MK promoted to the Championship, with a lot of cash thrown at it, and then he brought them straight back down again. And in the season after, he was sacked for a losing run in League 1.
He’s done OKish at Charlton without setting the world alight, again I suspect having turned a large pile of cash into a rather smaller pile. The rumours have been that he was on his way out of Charlton anyway due to an Aussie takeover with Harry Kewell lined up as manager.
His playing career doesn’t exactly suggest a pedigree, having peaked somewhere in the Welsh lower leagues.
But my recollections of his teams are that they played decent attacking football.
I suspect this appointment to be Tiger’s tenth first choice, having previously been seemingly turned down by everyone else for the job.

I’m sure you’re right, but that isn’t really relevant now. He seems to have made a fairly sensible appointment ultimately, even if the length of the process and the ‘wow factor’ comments cloud the judgement.OtmoorYellow wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:17 pm I suspect this appointment to be Tiger’s tenth first choice, having previously been seemingly turned down by everyone else for the job.
My reaction to KR is very much ‘meh’, which is certainly preferable to ‘wtf’ (Bellamy, Kluivert etc). I must admit to having developed an irrational dislike for him over the years, but that’s mainly based on the way he ponces around the touch line in ill-fitting jumpers. I’ll happily forgive him that if he does the business for Us.
I wonder whether Tiger still thinks he can get us in the playoffs...
Re: Karl Robinson
Got there in the end with a sensible appointment.
I have watched the interview on ifollow. Having picked up on some comments from Charlton supporters, I was pleased to see him being self-deprecating at one point. He is also respectful about Faz and what he can learn from him.
A young manager who has brought on some good young players in his time and has already achieved a promotion from League 1.
Not the sort of WOW we might have been expecting but that'll do nicely Tiger.

Re: Karl Robinson
What's the evidence that this wasn't Tigers first choice all along - if anything the evidence suggests otherwise. We couldn't appoint him until he had left Charlton - hence the delay. Other names in the frame (or at least with the bookies) were available and if they had been first choice they could have been manager last week. As Tiger said it would become clear why we delayed a couple more weeks - and it seems clear to me.
Anyway, I think this is a good appointment. His record at MK Dons in league 1 -
5th
5th
2nd
Aside from Grayson it is hard to find a better record at this level. Look what has happened to MK Dons since he left. At Charlton he was set to make the play offs this season but had the rug pulled from under him in Jan.
Most of all it suggests Tiger is not just here for a vanity project - this is a sensible appointment at this level, he lives locally, buys into the academy model and his a decent record at bringing younger players through. Of all the names on the bookies list (Apps excepted) he would be my first choice.
Big couple of months for him though - needs to get the likes of Ledson, Nelson, Clint and Lego onside quickly so they don't all depart in the summer.

Re: Karl Robinson
In many ways I would agree with this. There is a rumour on the other side that Kluivert was the preferred choice, but refused to come for a formal interview - if so, better off without such arrogance.
There also seems to be some clarity over the last year. Eales sold Lundstram and Johnson as he needed to recoup some money. He did not reinvest this, but gave Clotet a competitive salaries budget for League 1. Clotet spent that on his new players - so far, so good. However, come Christmas time, and not only is it looking unlikely to Eales that we will make the playoffs, but there are rumours of serious discontent in the squad - so even less likely to make the playoffs. Clotet is therefore sacked, and Eales looks to sell, rather then simply seeking new investment.
Is this a fair guess?

Re: Karl Robinson
Well, Robinson himself says that he isn't 'wow' - probably a subtle acknowledgement of the fact as well as him wanting to portray himself in a more down-to-earth light.
I have to say I'm very impressed by much of what he has said so far. Not the usual inane manager-speak, but some very sensible observations about how to approach football management and our current situation. He's got an interesting job over the summer with half the team out of contract and others having their heads turned. But an even bigger one before that, not just to haul us to safety but also bring some impetus and feelgood-factor back to the club.

Indeed they could...unless they turned it down.ty cobb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 11:28 am What's the evidence that this wasn't Tigers first choice all along - if anything the evidence suggests otherwise. Re: Karl Robinson
At the end of the day, the process and other candidates no longer matter.
We have a new manager and, just like any other new manager, he should get our full support until such time as he shows himself not to be worthy of it.
More important than any of this is ensuring we are playing League 1 football next season.
