Johnson to Boro?

Post by Kernow Yellow »

I know it's not confirmed yet, but it looks like MJ is on his way, and probably to Middlesbrough. Slightly odd, given that apparently we didn't want to sell him and Boro's manager is Pep Clotet's closest friend in English football!

He's a good player for sure, but if we're getting Roofe-esque money for him it seems like a good bit of business. Plus given that he clearly wants out and has effectively made himself unavailable for the last three matches, we're best off getting rid. Mind you, there's probably more to this saga than meets the eye, much like the O'Dowda situation last year...

If we do get 2.5 million for him, we'd be bonkers not to take it.

I would imagine the package will be around a cool GBP 3M with various add ons.

I agree it's a good deal and I am glad the saga is drawing to a close once and for all.

You would hope we have signing or two lined up for tomorrow. Think this will be
the busiest last day of the August transfer window EVER.

I notice the comments from the club are that Johnson hasn't 'trained properly' for two weeks now. Not the use of the word 'properly'...

Time to wave goodbye to a man who might be talented but is seemingly incapable of understanding the concept of what it means to be part of a team.

I wonder if going to 'Boro will actually help us to get the best possible deal as Monk will be more inclined to help his mate Clotet out with a few extra quid rather than, say, Birmingham where Dirty Harry will obviously be trying to screw us to the floor? Rumour from Saturday was that Johnson had been offered 10k a week at Brum but was expecting to get more at 'Boro.

Perhaps Monk may send us a couple of loanees too?

That is, if I may say so, fanciful. Monk has a responsibility to get the best possible deal for his club. He's not going to pay an artificially inflated price to help his mate out, and in doing so reduce his own transfer kitty further. We'd (rightly) be furious if we found that Pep was paying over the odds for a player to help out an old buddy.

Current rumours link us with Danny Mayor at Bury, Jodi Jones at Coventry and (perhaps less realistically) Jordan Graham at Wolves. Any one of those would be an adequate replacement for Johnson from what I've read, although Coventry's valuation of Jones at £1.5m surely puts him out of our price range unless they're willing to budge considerably.

Getting 2.5m for him (if true) is great business. We have nearly made enough money in transfer fees of late to pay for the stadium - the sums have bee crazy, is this down to a inflated market or are we just really good at player trading now?!?

Who will be going next season I wonder, Nelson, Eastwood and Ledson would seem to be the best assets we have left.

Be interesting to see who we bring in to replace him, I actually think we don't need to replace him but if we can improve what we've got all the better.

"Our team-based and collective culture is the foundation of our progress and it is essential that every member of the squad is 100 per cent committed to our cause."

Bye bye.

I've got to say that most of the games I saw MJ play on, he was at left back so I'm still yet to be convinced by his true ability.

Question: in 'today's market' (quite literally) what would Beauchamp have been worth...?
