I do feel particularly sorry for Alfie Potter, because although the release of e.g. Raynes demonstrates the ephemeral nature of playing careers all too clearly, it seems unusually clear that Alfie never recovered from that tackle by a Bristol Rovers player on 2nd November 2013. I don't know whether the damage was physical or mental, but in a very real sense 'he was never the same player' afterwards.

and in no particular surprise, joins Adam Murray's Mansfield Town.

[next non-shock I suppose would be Alfie Potter to Eastleigh]

Maybe my memory is playing tricks, but I don't ever remember Alfie as a player who performed consistently even before his injury. He was capable of great things (eg Pompey away, which was after his comeback) but those performances didn't come often enough. How many goals did we score, even in the Conference, after Alfie beat a player or two and then crossed for one of our strikers? Not nearly enough I'd say. Over the course of his time with us he never scored enough goals and often took the wrong option once he'd got us into a promising position.

That's not to say that he wasn't a good player to watch for us over the years, but I personally don't think of his 'pre-injury' and 'post-injury' form as being significantly different. Happy to be corrected though...
