Re: La Coupe Du Monde
It was 500-1 which according to Paddy Power's novelty bets is 4 times more unlikely than David Beckham becoming the next Mayor of London....
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
I know how I felt after watching this one with the identical score (link below) but I don’t even think it even starts to compare with how a Brazilian football fan must feel right now.

Re: La Coupe Du Monde
I was going to say, that's not the first time I've seen a team in yellow lose 7-1 at home. But I see Snake beat me to it.Hog wrote:What, not at 1-7? That's 1-SEVEN! At 'home'.
Brazil may be poor, but they still shouldn't be losing that heavily to anyone. But they couldn't handle the pressure and expectation at all, so once they conceded the first their heads just went and before they recovered they were 5 down. Three goals in less than three minutes was just incredible.
Germany are obviously a very decent team but Brazil made them look much better than they are. I fancy the winner of tonight's match to give them a much better game on Sunday. Germany-Holland would be an intense, brutal final.
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
With a bit of luck Michel Vorm will be doing the penalty shoot out if needed tonight as his Prem record is better than Tim Krul at spot kicks. And Jonny de Guzmán takes a better free kick than RVP so I hope to see him come off the bench at some point.
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
I think the scoreline was 3-1, plus 10 minutes where Brazil completely lost the plot.
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
Here's a genius version of the Manics' "Motorcycle Emptiness" rewritten using German footballers: Mertesacker Emptiness...

And , oh yeah, C'mon Germany!

The Germans are a great team, but I think that on balance I'd like to see Messi lift the cup. Should be a good final either way.
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
Fair enough, though I don't feel Messi has quite played up to his club level in this tournament, so far anyway. Some good moments, but faded a bit in the last couple of matches.
Re: La Coupe Du Monde
Holland marked him with between four and six players for the whole 120 minutes, which is why it was so odd that they didn't follow up that tactic with their specialist penalties 'keeper.Jimski wrote:Fair enough, though I don't feel Messi has quite played up to his club level in this tournament, so far anyway. Re: La Coupe Du Monde
Well I'm glad Germany won it, and the winning goal was worthy of the event. Argentina were a bunch of thugs. I'm also glad that 'we' seem to have got over the whole world wars thing with Germany - I got the impression that many in this country were cheering them on last night, something that would have been unthinkable even only a few years ago.
Brazil's amusing thrashing apart, the latter stages of the tournament were a bit disappointing really, weren't they? Plenty of tension but little in the way of attacking football. I fell asleep during the second semi-final it was that dull.

Yes, well-deserved victory for Germany. The best team at this World Cup without any doubt. Messi was again very subdued - I wonder if he was tired and/or carrying an injury. A very underwhelming tournament by his high standards, especially as the matches got tougher. How he won player of the tournament is beyond me - might as well call it "most famous player award".

Now what? Cricket?
Might go to CPF tomorrow to get my fix.

Seemed to work in the World Cup, but it's the only a treat in store at a JPT game this season. Expect an announcement on the tannoy each time it's used along the lines of 'This spray is manufactured by Johnstone's Paint'.Snake wrote:I like the ‘invisible line’ to stop encroachment at free kicks.
I don’t like ITV’s coverage so far and in particular Adrian Chiles, which is probably why this happened - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldc ... nding.html
