John Shuker

Post by The Boys from Up the Hill »

I'm sure some of the older posters on here will remember seeing John Shuker play (I don't, I'm far too young!) so this interview might interest you. Really nice bloke and obviously still interested in OUFC after all these years.

I certainly remember John Shuker and if my memory serves me correctly (which is never a certainty) after his playing career was over he became the manager of the Pressed Steel Fisher Sports and Social Club at Romanway.

In order to verify this I did a Google search (to no avail) but came across this instead.

I recall John Shuker being a solid left back. He played further forward in midfield I believe earlier in his career but when I started watching back in the late 60s, he had moved back to left back.

It seems that for years (probably wasn't), the back 5 were Barron, Lucas, Shucker, C Clarke, Roberts. Didn'e let many in ()or score many) in those days!

During his time John Shuker played in nearly every position on the park and always gave 100%.

Interesting find, I actually remember reading that while at university. It was written by one of my lecturers!
