It is getting silly now. I fully expected us to appoint a manager on Monday or Tuesday this week - but it's now looking less and less likely that we'll have someone new in time for Saturday's game (and certainly not to have any real quality training ground time to get to know the players beforehand).

"Under-promise and over-deliver" is a useful motto for any owner. So far, Mr Thanakarnjanasuth has over-promised and under-delivered. If he's not in the country, he needs to delegate the duty of appointing a manager to someone who is. Especially if, as seems likely, his first-choice candidate(s) turned us down.

I'd also like to add a word of criticism about our local media. Why the hell have the Oxford Mail and Radio Oxford not been putting some pressure on by asking some serious public questions about the situation? We all know the answer - they're concerned about retaining their precious cosy access to the club and players. But if they were doing their job, they'd be asking far more questions, getting a few more backs up, and doing some quality journalism into the bargain rather than trying to protect their future ability to write lots of "[journeyman midfielder] says Oxford are fired up for their game against [lower-league cloggers]" articles.

Fascinating to see the difference today between Derby County fans, who are generally optimistic about the prospect of getting Lampard as a manager, and the slightly sniffier thoughts of a lot of Oxford fans above.
