centurians

If we score 3 goals on Saturday, by my reckoning, that will be the second consecutive season we've notched over 100 goals in a campaign. Which really is some achievement, especially given the whining about our lack of a natural goalscorer.

The last time we scored 100 plus was 95-96 (prior to last season), and the last time we managed it in consecutive seasons was 83-84 and 84-85.

If we score 3 goals on Saturday I'll be impressed; the game's on Sunday, 12 noon kick off!

Two chances to make it past 100 then!

Nah, two chances will only get us to 99....

We have hit 254 shots on target in league games this season, the most of any team in England.

Wow, I find that astonishing. The feeling I get is that we don't shoot enough!

Where did you find that stat Neil?

Likewise - I always think we're a bit too tippy-tappy and dont' shoot enough. Have we really had more shots on target than Sheffield United who have scored 26 more goals than us? If so, it points to a very poor conversion rate.

Since when did anyone have to back up statements with proven facts? :-)

It's from Football League Power Rankings, who put a table out on twitter yesterday @FLPowerRankings #FLPR

2nd Peterborough, 246
3rd Sheffield Utd, 241
4th Newcastle, 240

Maguire on his own has had 58 shots on target this season. More than anyone in the division bar Sharp (69). Source: BBC.

(In terms of total shots, on or off target, Maguire leads the division with 122 ahead of Sharp's 119.)

100 goals, 8th & Wembley. No complaints. A little frustrating that home draws against Milwall and Southend would have seen us in the playoffs.

I can't help but feel that this season might have been an opportunity missed. Looking at the teams coming up and down, next season will be tough, especially given uncertainty and likely changes in our squad. Lots of unknowns as to what next year will bring.

So another season has drawn to a close - and a successful one in my view
with the club finishing just four points away from the play-offs.United reached round five of the FA Cup
and got to another Football League Trophy Final at Wembley. Bitter rivals Sw*ndon were soundly beaten - twice.
I am not saying we would have won through the play-offs but it would have been great
to have competed in them. The U's have never been involved in the FL play-offs.
Overall the U's finished in their highest FL position since 1998-1999.
The average home league attendance was the highest since 1987-1988.

The season was wrapped up with a comfortable home victory over Shrewsbury Town
thanks to first half goals from Curtis Nelson and Rob Hall.
Simon Eastwood played every minute of all 62 games and swept the board at the end of season
awards dinner. Chris Maguire won the golden boot for his 17 goals. Please stay Mags !
Canice Carroll won young player of the season.

Excellent season in my view. At the start I would have been happy just with avoiding a relegation battle, but to get close to the play offs, good cup runs and a trip to Wembley, not to mention a couple of top notch signings to improve the squad.

Its very difficult to be anything other than happy and without curtailing that joy at all, the realisation that converting just a couple of defeats or draws to wins would have seen us in a play off place.

Given the progress this season, surely next season we have to be aiming at the play offs.
