Home Form

Post by Jimski »

So that's one win from our last 6 home league games now, and a record of 1-2-3. Last season it was our ridiculously good away form that enabled our promotion, while our home form was not great for a side finishing second (10-7-6).

It seemed initially this season that things had changed, with decent home form offsetting terrible away form, but things have switched around again. What is wrong with us at this stadium? We never yet seem to have created a "fortress" here.

League form at home:

Oxford 1 Gillingham 0
Oxford 1 Oldham 1
Oxford 0 Northampton 1
Oxford 0 Walsall 0
Oxford 1 MKD 0
Oxford 0 Southend 2
Oxford 0 Bristol R 2

So since we defeated Cov 4-1 on November 19th we gave scored
just three league goals at home Johnson, Hall and Hemmings with the goals.

In Cup games it's far better:

Oxford 3 Macclesfield 0
Oxford 4 Scunthorpe 1
Oxford 3 Newcastle 0
Oxford 2 Bradford 1

Apart from one or two seasons in the Conf.we have not been a good home league
side for 20 years or so.Certainly Grenoble Road has never been good for us in 16 seasons.
The pitch is clearly a disgrace again which does not help but it feels and looks like a
run down uncared for dump. The landlord - who I understand was there yesterday -
needs to have a long hard look at himself. What are we getting for £500k+ pa
rent?

Back to the Bristol game - we were massively outnumbered in midfield
with Rovers appearing to play 3-6-1 out of possession, 3-4-3 in possession
and their power, strength and energy was far superior to our levels.
Skarz had a shocking 45 mins.Sercs never got into the game and was wasted
in that shape - ditto Marvin in the first half. We were well beaten again at home
which is a worry and never really competed. The loss of Maguire, Hall,
Nelson and Hemmings was huge. Hemmings had his best 90 minutes for us
at Luton.Maguire's ability to hold and shield the ball plus his class
with the ball was a massive miss. You need Hall's pace and trickery -
but on that pitch?

I would have gladly accepted a mid table finish and another Wembley
appearance last August but am worried at the home form (again).

We now have more away points than home this season, albeit from one extra away game. What with last season as well, it's all getting a bit bizarre.
