January Transfer window

Post by Kernow Yellow »

So Martinez has come in, and Taylor has gone. Anything else going to happen? Surely there's not much point Benji hanging around? Is Macdonald on his way?

Appleton said on Saturday that he expected a new face today, but that seems to have stalled.

Agree re: Buchel - he didn't even feature in today's reserve game against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Wide man Alex MacDonald leaves Grenoble Road after two good years with the U's
and could be signing for Mansfield Town.

EDIT: Macca is a stag !

News of an incoming however is not too far away.

Welcome to Oxford - Everton striker Conor McAleny signs for the U's.
He's pictured (right) along side Max Power whilst on loan at Wigan.

Anyone else find it odd that in a transfer window where we progressed in two cup competitions, netting significant extra income and ensuring a very crowded fixture schedule for the next couple of months, we ended up with a smaller squad than we started with?

Of course Martinez and McAleny might turn out to be star signings, but it's a bit of a risk losing the experience of Taylor and Macdonald isn't it? Not that I've got a problem with our current players at all, but a couple more injuries might see us looking a bit light...

To look at it another way, KY, maybe we've taken the view that we're almost certain to finish mid-table, that the current squad can focus on making the best possible progress in the two cups, and that by saving two wages we'll free up more money to build a promotion-winning side over the summer for 2017/18. It's probably a fair assessment.

The January window is for panic buys. You've just given all the reasons why we don't need to panic!

By which point the stadium situation should be a bit clearer...

By which point the stadium situation and the potential revenues this will bring should be a bit clearer...DE has already made it clear that failure to sort that out will constrain our upward ambitions. Frankly, first season back in the 3rd division, mid-table plus two decent cup runs will do me.
