Stewarding

Apologies for posting lots of bits today all at once - it's an attempt to try and revive the board a little! *

There was considerable disquiet at the Other Place about some of the stewarding at Grenoble Road in recent weeks. Flag-gate has had its share of attention, but unnecessary, over-zealous and antagonistic stewarding seems to be becoming commonplace. Some were saying that even thermos flasks were being confiscated before the Boxing Day game - which I believe would fall outside of our ground regs which state (p 12, para 7) "The following articles must not be brought within the Ground - knives, fireworks, smoke canisters, air-horns, flares, weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, bottles, glass vessels, cans, poles and any article that might be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety".

I've yet to see it at OUFC, but I've seen it in plenty of other grounds, and over-zealous stewarding is a cast-iron way to upset supporters, cause strife and ruin atmosphere. If the club have any sense at all, they'll make it a priority to get to the bottom of the problem. I can't help but feel that this is another operational hiccup since Greg Box-Turnball has been on the scene. Everyone makes mistakes, but he seems to be making a lot of them at the minute.

Any thoughts? Anyone encounter some of the stewarding problems outlined above?

I remember the Battle of the Beech Road c. 1987 when Thermos Flasks rained down on the tartan blanket-clad masses. Very dangerous.
