Baffling

Post by ty cobb »

Well I'm not quite sure how we managed to lost that last night. We were much the better team played some stunning stuff at times but we are decision making was poor in the final third which resulted in them having more shots on goal than us. We just did not test the keeper enough.

Plus points was Hemmings up top, he missed a couple of sitters but held the ball up well (when it was played into his feet or chest) and looked a threat and got his goal. Rothwell looked impressive again and Maguire oozed class and their player should have got a second yellow for assaulting him in front of the lino - but of course the ref did nothing apart from booking Maguire for pointing out to the lino just how bad a tackle it was.

We overplayed it at the back at times, we didn't find Marv enough with quality balls into feet and we looked shaky at the back which meant Eastwood had to make some fantastic saves yet again.

Came away happy that we played well but very disappointed that we managed to lose to the worst team we had played all season by some way.

I too came away feeling that overall
the performance deserved a better outcome
but that's the nature of the beast. The quality of our play
for long spells was top class with Maguire
at the heart of everything that was good.
A class player who stood head and shoulders
above all those around him. He must play
in the no.10 role for the U's. We were guilty
of some sloppy play, of course, but that's inevitable
when you have so much of the ball.

In the first half we passed and probed but over elaborated
around their penalty area when trying to pick
the perfect pass.It all seemed too easy.We moved it well, with pace, from side to
side and front to back but found ourselves a goal down
from a Ryan Leonard thunderbolt.

After getting on level terms at the break United
toyed with the Shrimpers and created numerous
openings and their harsh pen. should have been
a consolation. United ran the hosts ragged in
truth but will rue their lack of quality
in the box with shots flying over the goal
from all angles.

Annoyingly we lost but we were
impressive, hugely impressive in possession
and are surely on the right track under Appy.
Bolton here we come.
