OxVox elections

Post by Kernow Yellow »

Interesting list of people standing for election this time. As well as those seeking re-election, and a couple of new faces, there are no fewer than 4 previous committee members (including two former chairs and a former vice-chair) looking to get involved.

Given what a thankless task voluntary positions like this can be, I must say I'm intrigued by this. Especially given the widely-alleged spat between Trevor Lambert's Yellow Army and Mark Sennett's OxVox not all that long ago. Do these nominations show a willingness for experienced heads to work together, or a re-emergence of old factions? I hope the former, but if so why now? Is there something in the offing that needs working on that means everyone wants to come back on board? And what of Myles, who stood down only a matter of months ago but is standing again already?

I appreciate that people might want to keep their reasons for jumping on and off the committee personal, but if anyone can shed any light on this I'd be interested! Especially as some of those involved post on here occasionally...

I'm happy to explain myself.

To be honest, I have never gone away. I stood down at the last AGM because I had spent so much time and effort in the previous years that I fancied a break. The truth being, I haven't had a break, having been asked to stay on during a transition period by Jeremy. Matt D also did the same. The reasons for being asked to stay, should be self-explanatory.

So I worked with Jem and the entire committee from the following day because they were left in the **** and with respect, completely inexperienced. I had no intention of leaving them and the Trust, which I think I had been a good part of, in the dark and in a very awkward position! That was my personal decision. I don't intend to speak for others on this matter but I did what I thought was the right thing to do and I'm pleased I did. I really value the Trust and what it's achieved.

We know committee's are diverse, with people able to bring different amounts of time etc. However, it's always had three or four more influential and 'do-ers' but Jem didn't appear to have that (other than himself and a couple of others). I think most active members would recognise that to be accurate.

So I tried to remove myself from the limelight but those clever enough and able to read committee notes and meeting notes, would have seen my regular involvement over the last 12 months. I think any current committee member will vouch I'm in effect, a committee member or have behaved like one. I have ran the entire OxVox Twitter and Facebook account and worked solely with Jem and T3Design to bring a new website. I've worked with Jem (who I might add has worked tirelessly) on a daily basis, I helped with the Austria tour (with my brothers) so I'm really happy with what I've contributed whilst being a non-committee member. We got the LW signs down and we've worked really well with the football club, striking up a very professional and receptive relationship with Daryl. That resulted, in DE suggesting he would explore Supporter Representation.

Trevor came back into the fold during the middle of last year and sorted out our Membership data, a poor CRM system and got on top of the database and IT issues. I think he's enjoyed being back involved.

I won't comment on the other candidates but I would be absolutely delighted to see the two ladies elected, providing some diversity in what is a male-dominated sport and Supporters Trust. I'll be voting for them. Both look quality potential additions.

if BB wants to step back on to the committee, then he gets one of my votes as I've seen the amount of work he's put in over the last 12 months. so much for the 'break'!

besides, anyone who gets a member of ride to join the trust would get my vote anyway...

more to the point though i'm just pleased to see people, and people who are new to oxvox (or at least I haven't been previously aware of them), keen to get involved.

as I've said on here numerous times, the trust needs enthusiasm and energy, so it's good to see members responding to what jem and the trust has been doing. well done to him and the rest of the current committee.

Thanks for the update Mr Bull. You are doing a sound job
and I am glad that Trevor wants to get involved again.

I must say I am surprised that Mr Sennett wants to get back on the horse
so soon after departing last year.

Not sure if elected how he and Trevor will work together!

For anyone who wants the list of candidates here they are:

Colin Barson. Colin served on the Committee some years back and in his day job is the Managing Director of a large industrial and commercial lighting company based in the Midlands. A fan and season ticket holder of many years, Colin has specialist skills in General Management, Sales, Marketing and Finance.

Simon Bradbury. Simon will be known to many of you and has held the Vice Chair position in the Trust and stepped down from the committee last year, but is re-standing having continued to support OxVox throughout the last year in a number of areas, including building our social media and communication presence. Simon was instrumental in arranging the pre-season tour to Austria! ‘By day’, Simon works in a senior sales role in the motor industry.

Mathew Cavill. Matt is a current Committee member and, due to the rules of The Trust, is required to seek re-election to the Committee, due to his length of service. Matt is a product manager in the IT solutions industry and highly experienced in technology based sales and marketing. Matt rarely misses an OUFC game – including youth and development matches!

Myles Francis. Myles stepped down from the position of Vice Chair and Treasurer on the Committee during the last year and is looking to come back on board. Myles has key expertise in Senior Health & Safety management and has been actively involved in various fan groups associated with OUFC over many years.

Trevor Lambert. Trevor was Chairman of OxVox for many years as well as being a member of the FOUL group ‘back in the day’. With key skills as a statistician and survey designer with Oxford University, Trevor has worked behind the scenes in an advisory role to the Committee over the last year and is now keen to get back involved in a more formal basis and re-join your Committee.

Kate Longworth. Kate is standing for the first time and is a highly experienced Development and Fundraising manager. Kate’s experience involves working with organisations such as The Art Room, Oxford University, The Ashmolean Museum, the Oxford Playhouse and HMV. Kate has a thorough and passionate understanding of local communities in Oxford and the social issues effecting those communities.

Michael North. Michael is a current OxVox committee member and is also (as with Matt Cavill) compelled to seek re-election this year due to Trust rules. Michael is the OxVox membership secretary and many will also know him from the programme table which he runs at the stadium! In his working life, Michael is a specialist Clinical Radiographer in the NHS.

Mark Sennett. Having stepped away from his role as OxVox Chair at last year's AGM, Mark is seeking to re-join the committee this year. As a journalist and editor in his working week, Mark’s specialist skills are complemented by a broad understanding of the local political scene as well as sound knowledge of the club and the various key stakeholders associated with OUFC.

Chloe Smart. Chloe is standing for the first time and is the youngest candidate to ever put themselves forward for election! As Chair of the Oxfordshire FA Youth Council she provides a voice for young people involved in football across the County. A qualified referee and an avid fan of OUFC she is also actively involved in the management committee of Oxford City Stars Ice Hockey Club. A volunteer in many local organisations, Chloe recently won the Oxfordshire Young Volunteer of the year award.

Yes, thanks very much Simon. Your continued work has certainly been noticed by those of us who read the meeting minutes!

But I share OUFC4eva's concerns about Trevor and Mark - didn't Trevor actually resign his life membership in a fit of pique a little while back? Is he even eligible to stand?!
