FA Cup 4th Round Draw

Post by SWA »

Newport or Blackburn. Am hoping for Blackburn. Either way, we have a great chance to progress to the 5th Round. Plenty of important games to take care of before then though.

Definitely hoping for Blackburn. Firstly it should get us close to filling the ground again and keeping the feelgood factor going. And also because Newport at home is exactly the kind of fixture I can see us losing - we didn't even beat them in the league game at our place, and it will seem an anti-climax after the Swansea heroics.

The worst thing about this draw is that it might be some time before we know who, or even when, we will be playing. A coupe of years ago Newport didn't play any home games for about 6 weeks iirc. Luckily the forecast isn't so bad between now and Monday so fingers crossed for a result then. Be interesting to know whether there's a rugby match at Rodney Parade this weekend?

Based on the weather forecast for the next few days the Rodney Parade mud bath may well be turning into the Rodney Parade ice rink.

South Wales, along with most of the country is heading towards sub zero temperatures.

So it's Blackburn. Which I imagine means a Saturday 3pm kick-off, seeing as Welsh telly won't want to show it...

Now confirmed as Saturday 30th January. Which is exactly 31 years to the day since we lost 1-0 to them at home in the FA Cup fourth round. Although if memory serves that was an evening match.

Anyway, we haven't been this far in the competition for 17 years, and we haven't played Blackburn for 24 years, so we should get another really good crowd in. It won't be easy though - we haven't beaten them at home since my very first football match!

Oxford v Blackburn 1964 is ranked as the number 1 FA Cup giant-killing ever on this excellent website:

Our recent triumph vs Swansea comes in at number 53:
