Inevitable, really, but oh bugger.

Magpies after Roofe
Re: Magpies after Roofe
Thing is, if they did buy him they'd probably just loan him out again in the way the stockpiling Premier League clubs do these days. Which would all be very pointless.
Re: Magpies after Roofe
Which is precisely what Newcastle have done with
former Northampton youngster Ivan Toney who
has been loaned to struggling League One outfit Barnsley.

Surely this sort of thing goes on all the time anyway... You'd have to be pretty thick to be in the business and not to be interested in who is knocking the goals in for a club (albeit in L2) which is attracting quite a bit of national press attention. And then there is the Vardy story, just in case you forgot where to look.
It might be more important to consider why this is being made public, presumably by Newcastle. McLaren can't survive much longer - is this related?

They could have had him for free in the summer. It's almost like they don't scout lower league players or premiership reserves properly, just look in the paper to see who is a top scorer.
Re: Magpies after Roofe
We might have a bidding war on our hands. Stoke also interested.

Re: Magpies after Roofe
Isn't it nice to have a team with assets in it. We may be looking at a negative balance sheet, but for the first time in about 15 years ( if not since the mid 1980s we've actually got players on our books who might be worth something to other teams.
CoD for me is the one worth a few quid, and it's a shame we don't own Baldock who must also be up there price-wise. Those two, the way the work together, are almost as good as Matty and Phil in their day as a pair.
Gone are the days when Wright was about the only poachable player, now we have a few who might actually balance out the debt on the books.
Maybe.

I'm not sure we're going to get 8.5m for Roofe.

Maybe with sell-ons, add-ons, playing 50 times for England...ty cobb wrote:I'm not sure we're going to get 8.5m for Roofe.
