I wondered if it was Davies but wouldn't have put money on it!

If we score early, Barnet could well take a thrashing on our current form.

I think Ty's identifications are correct. Several thousand points for the one bent over behind Eric....

The one with us in yellow is clearly Micheal Appleton trying to stop Chris Hoy jumping into the crowd with Gary McCallister about to jump on his back -

The one bending over behind Sabin is clearly Mickey Lewis picking up the cones from the warm up

Basham I reckon (having looked at the team list for the day). Appears to be shirt number 23 which rings a bell for Bash...

Blimey, I wouldn't have a clue what boots anyone wore. Although I'm pretty sure Kemar Roofe's aren't black, but that's as far as my knowledge extends. Anyway, Bash wore shirt number 23, and that player appears to have 23 on his shorts, and he's loitering in a forward's position ready for kick-off. So I'm saying Bash.

Lee Bradbury wore Adidas boots that season, and played in that match?

I was thinking Bradbury too. Was he number 8? That could easily be 8 on his shirt. (can't spot this 23 - where exactly is that?)

Returning to Saturday's 2-3 loss to Barnet (did I really just type that) United
uncharacteristically conceded three bad goals in a mad six
minute spell midway through the first half with suicidal defending.

After the impressive Sercombe netted an early opener, the warning signs started to appear
as Barnet began to look dangerous.United were unusually open on the counter attack,
alarming amounts of space began appearing down the flanks and in midfield too.
There was again, of course, the usual failure to deal with bread and butter balls into a big striker
that did for the U's. This cannot continue.

Repeated inability to deal with long straight balls or diagonal balls Into the penalty area
from teams who choose to go direct is causing big problems.Wright got out jumped
for the first goal and the flick on from Akinde left Weston with a easy finish
and then Wright produced an horrendous air shot to put the ball
on a plate for the aforementioned Akinde who drilled the ball
past Slocombe and Wright and Skarz then
got done in behind by Clarke's pace for number three.
Clarke finished well past Slocombe.

Sercombe scored a classy second - breaking from midfield again - and the second half
was all set up for United to repair the damage.Sercombe was even denied a hat-trick
after his shot hit a post a minute from the break.

The referee Handley, who had a wretched match, allowed Barnet to
"manage the game" with constant time wasting and delaying tactics
throughout the 98 minutes which seem to start after 5 minutes of play.

Allen, the loathsome Barnet manager, seemed to be managing the fourth official and indeed
the game and was always remonstrating and screaming at the officials.
That was not the reason United lost though - terrible defending
and poor decision making in the final third
from Roofe, most notably, meant the first home league defeat
since March when the U's succumbed to lowly Hartlepool 0-2.

United need to defend much better if they are to avoid a similar
fate at Stevenage next Saturday.

Before everyone jumps on Wright, after the match, Appleton confirmed that Jake had a sore back. Quite why he was playing with a sore back needs answering.

It was a poor 15 minutes from United, with Mullins also having a poor game at the back, and Lundstrom struggling to complete any pass over 5 yards.

I don't care who we are playing, any team that gives the ball away so easily, will struggle. And if you have 2 centre backs lacking height, at times you will come under pressure from long ball teams.

Defending as a team begins with the forwards. Hylton was well off his usual standard, as was Roofe. We didn't hold the ball up well against a side drilled to get a foot in straight away to disrupt our play.

Jordan Graham was surely close to a consecutive red card with the ill judged tackle following his failure to win a cast iron penalty, although the Barnet player and team did their best to accentuate the event.

Sercombe and MacDonald had good games.

Slocombe came for crosses! He was not at fault for any of the goals.

Baldock and Skarz were ok.

I never enjoy watching Martin Allen sides. They are all set up to play the same predictable way. In fairness, Barnet were better than I expected given their league position, but we were the superior side for the majority of the game.

The ref was very poor. Why can't refs apply the laws of the game consistently. Jordan Graham gets sent off for nudging the ball away, yet numerous times this has happened against us with players not even spoken to. And why no bookings for the time wasting employed from the start by Barnet. Or the numerous niggly disruptive fouls. People won't come to see matches played like that, yet teams who play like this regularly complain of low crowds.

I would rather we lose against Barnet than Plymouth, as the points don't go to a promotion rival. We know we are better as a team than we played yesterday, so let's keep the result in context.
