Sorry! Why can't our players vary where they put the effing ball? I reckon I could save a penalty from Hylton or Roofe becauce I know where they're going to put it!

Why can't they just effing whack it? Top corner, no one's saving that.

Some credit to Morecambe for being the best in the business at shutting up shop. But really can they feel happy with themselves, travelling the land spoiling games of football every fortnight?

In reality it has cost Us 3 points had they all been converted into goals this season - or statistically 2.55 points if the average penalty success rate of 85% had been achieved.

But there's loads of clubs in League 2 who play like that away from home. We complain about it every time we drop points to 'the likes of' Morecambe (we've had Crawley already this season, and there will plenty more to come). Better surely that we learn how to beat those tactics? We've had enough practice over the last few years. Scoring penalties would be a good start of course.

Speaking of dropped points, if we want promotion we need to be winning the vast majority of our home games. We've failed to win 3 out of 5 so far. We shouldn't let our league position lull us into a false sense of security either - it's so tight below us that we're only one point off 14th place.

I see Sercombe will be the next to try his luck from the spot. I do wonder if we shouldn't have just stuck with Hylton. Even after his poor spell of pens, he was still on 6 out of 9. Could be better, I guess, but it's hardly that bad a record.

Update:

Sercs see's his penalty saved by Joronen but later nets a second penalty at The Lamex, Stevenage.

Seven penalties for the U's so far this season. Only three successfully converted.

Not sure about Serc's short run-up, I think it limits his options. Even the one he scored today was a weak penalty, straight down the middle, not very hard, perfectly savable height.

That sounds a bit mean, considering he's the finest midfielder we've had in years. His drive and energy is just incredible.

Provided we keep winning, I couldn't give a stuff how many penalties we miss!

Seriously though, strikers really ought to be a safe pair of hands (feet) when it comes to penalty taking. Hylton was excellent last season, so it must just be a confidence thing this season.

Ryan Taylor hasn't been tried out yet from the spot....

Power, on target and close to the woodwork will score 99 times out of 100.

Statistically, straight down the middle is the superior choice. But because you look like a total plum if the 'keeper works out your game, rarely chosen.

Sixth penalty missed in the league this season.

Serc's misses his third spot kick of the campaign.

Who's next up for the U's?
