Staggered

Post by GodalmingYellow »

Bar the first couple of minutes, this was another good away performance from the U's.

Mansfield at home were clearly happy with a draw and we're lucky to hold on for the point.

19 fouls committed by Mansfield and 6 or 7 yellow cards, of which 2 could easily have been red, is a disgraceful indication of what they set out to do. They apparently had similar stats in their last game.

Matt Green was a handful, and their aged keeper was very good, but other than that their players were clearly lower standard than ours.

MacDonald was below par again and was rightly subbed off, but otherwise all our players did a good job.

Appleton needs to get on top of the issue of early concentration and prevent us conceding the first goal in every match, but otherwise, the style and quality of play was dominant and hats off too him for turning a mediocre team most of last season into a good passing side.

Whether it was 1 point gained or 2 points lost is a moot point. But it was an away game, another unbeaten, and if we win our home games and draw our away games, we will be promoted.

Mansfield received SEVEN bookings at Accrington in midweek too.

The challenge on O'Dowda in the box for our penalty was ridiculous - what was their player thinking?

I would have taken a point as Green strode up for the pen.but we sounded
from the commentary to have a lot of the ball.Still a point is a point.

We have got a problem defending balls high into our box and it seems to need recifying
PDQ. Yeovil next Saturday won't be easy but looking forward to it.

Yet again we've been exposed by high balls into the box, which wright and Mullins and Slocombe fail to deal with. Luckily the attack is made of sterner stuff and we've won every second half this season. MacDonald is a red card waiting to happen.

Nice range of beer at the Railway Inn too.

Not sure about that Slappy. Their goal was driven from the edge of the area. More down to slack marking than failure to deal with a high ball.

Wright's header wasn't great in terms of distance but Westcarr won't hit a sweeter volley this season. The first 15 minutes was dreadful defensively though, the mix-up leading to the penalty was a shambles and Wright also let Green run straight onto a through ball past him at one point.

Strange sort of game, when Mansfield were awarded a penalty, I thought the game was all but over but then when Roofe scored ours, I was pretty sure we'd win.

Baldock, Sercombe, Hylton and Roofe were a class above any of the Mansfield players. Mention for Taylor also who started to show a bit of what he can do in terms of link up and hold up play.

Having just watched the highlights on Youtube - how was that not a red card? It's basically some kind of flying martial arts kick!

One of only four unbeaten teams in the League. On current form we should do alright against Yeovil, so the real test in the League will be Bristol and Northampton.

Shaping up nicely so far, but if the leaky defence was plugged we'd be up the top with Orient
