Our new signing - a real statement of intent.

Apparently Crewe's board blocked their manager's interest in him because he would have become 'far and away [their] highest paid player'. Read into that what you will.

He'll obviously go straight into the team, but I wonder who he'll replace? It would be a shame if Danny Rose lost his place now - he's playing his best football at the moment and is the creative force in our midfield (and team). Sercombe would be annoyed to be dropped so early in the season too you'd imagine. Maybe they'll all play and we'll change formation? Might be a good thing against the Crawleys of this world.

I've read that he's not quite match fit a the moment following an injury (ankle?), so won't go straight into the team. Appleton is trying to arrange a behind closed doors friendly to assess him fitness apparently.

Thus article from 2013 waxes lyrical about his future prospects.
