Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
And I'd absolutely love to have a set of high-level Championship players/lower-level Premiership players wearing yellow and blue but it's not going to happen due to financial demands and the personal aspirations of those who have operated at that level for a number of years now.YF Dan wrote:I would absolutely love Ian Holloway to be our next manager.
Amazing record of unearthing strikers, playing attacking football, and coaxing the very best out of ordinary squads.
How were the last two games, by the way?
I strongly suspect (and think people need to realise) that CW will be here for another season at least if OUFC finish in a play-off position this year. It will be seen as progress and at present, that outcome is highly likely.
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Latest favourites:
Palace - Pulis and Coleman both around 6/4, MON & Avram GRant at 8s, Curbishley & Warnock top of the usual suspects.
Middlesboro - Former assistant to Mourinho, Aitor Karanka is odds on here, with caretaker Mark Venus at about 11/4, Mike Phelan 14/1, 20/1 bar these.
Notts county - Danny Wilson odds on, from Brian Kerr and caretaker Steve Hodge. Pearce and Saunders more familiar names a little further out, while our own Lee Bradbury is linked and just 12/1 fourth favourite with SkyBet, though denies any interest. Local press suspect a quick appointment due on this one.
Gillingham - Peter Taylor still in situ, no odds but expect him to become permanent, unless he loses to Brackley.
Bury - Ronnie Jepson still in caretaker charge, no rush to appoint anyone new.

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Taylor and Jepson still very much in situ at Gillingham and Bury,
while caretaker Mark Venus has topped the pile at Boro in the last few days, with legend Ravanelli coming in to join him, both between 2/1 & 7/2
Shaun Derry (playing for Millwall on loan from QPR) is odds on for Notts County, from Danny Wilson, recent Carlisle sacking Gregg Abbott & Alan Stubbs
Welsh manager Chris Coleman is odds on at the head of the pack for Palace, from Karanka (5/2) and Pulis (4s)
Pulis is about evens to replace Coleman, with Craig Bellamy (5s) and Jackett (12s) the only main opposition
MON all set to take the Republic role, with some suggesting Roy Keane as #2.
Next to go in the Premier league is unsurprisingly a toss up between Martin Jol and Chris Hughton, the rumble over Mackay at Cardiff is slowly subsiding & Alan Pardews position at the Toon is strengthening with every Joe Kinnear cock-up (latest being trying to sign a player from a club, who is actually at that club on loan from - you guessed it - Newcastle). Interestingly, Hughes at Stoke is already into 20/1 fifth favourite to go next!
In the Championship, BetVictor have Lee Clark at 2/1, Dave Jones at 11/4, Flitcroft, Dickov, Gary Johnson & Freedman not out of the woods yet between 10/1-16/1. Clark has the excuse of internal turmoil of course, the others less so.
Sean O'Driscoll still on the edge at Bristol City in L1 and Adie Boothroyd at Northampton in L2 can't be sleeping much either
Elsewhere, Terry Butcher has agreed terms on a move from Inverness to Hibs.

According to the local media, Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott are about to be named the new management team at Notts County.

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Taylor confirmed at Gillingham after their majestic performance against Brackley.
Jepson still in the box seat at Bury, and Venus heads the list at Boro, though Karanka, Solskjear & Ravanelli all backed in behind him.
Karenka however is odds on at Palace, with Chris Coleman out to 5s, not least as still in talks with Wales.
Pulis evens to replace Coleman if he does leave.
Others set take new roles are CRaig Levein to replace Terry Butcher at Inverness CT & Paul Sturrock to take on the Forest Green job, though Robbie Fowler 2nd fave for that one.
Whilst Mackay and Tan try to get on with things, and Hughton oversaw a strong response to their previous defeat, there seems no life left in the current incarnation at Fulham, with Jol seemingly as resigned to his future there (or lack of) than the media and the bookies (5/2 ON to be next to go in the Premiership) - di Matteo, Solskjear and Pulis head the list to come in, with Hoddle an interesting name at 14/1. RDM not being as strongly linked to most roles as others, so his name at the top of the list could be significant.
Despite being mid-table, the rumour mill has Blackburn ready to wield the axe again on Gary Bowyer, with Ian Holloway said to be the main target to replace him.
As with Jol, it seems only a matter of time before Dave Jones finally departs at Wednesday, with little sign of any revival while he remains. REpublic U21 manager is a surprise name linked to replace him, with ol' Sven also on the list
a few clubs in L1 & 2 eased their manager's worries with cup wins, with Adie Boothroyd probably the most relieved.

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Boro press conference 1030am tomorrow where they are expected to announce the arrival of Aitor Karanka as manager.
Changes the picture at Palace where another former big time #2 Rene Meulensteen is now into evens, with Dan Petrescu next at 6s & Karl Robinson at 8s
Interestingly Paul Tisdale is at 33/1, ahead of a number of more likely names

Interesting development at Fulham: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24929877
as Rene Muelensteen joins as head coach alongside Martin Jol
Could this be the dream team to turn them round, or just the first step in the succession process?
Looks like Pet Rescue (currently manager at Dynamo Moscow)now a shoo in for Palace

My Little Pony (the polar opposite of an OUFC legend in my eyes) is touting himself shamelessly for the not-even-vacant Torquay job
