Not really on topic, but a Rushden fan is replaying Championship Manager 01/02 and they are playing Oxford in the Vans trophy, Southern Leg. Some names to remember.

The Guinness Soccer 6 and Daily Express National 5 a side tournaments were indoor tournaments for invited clubs from the top tier of English football.

We were invited into the 5 a side tournament in 1985/86 and 1986/87, and into the 6 a side tournament in 1986/87 and 1987/88.

If memory serves me right, we won the 1985/86 5 a side tournament beating Arsenal and we got to the final of the 1986/87 6 a side tournament, again playing Arsenal in the final.

Whilst not particularly valuable, the tournament brochures do not come up for sale very often. I still need the 1985/86 5 a side brochure and the 1986/87 6 a side brochure if anyone has them for sale!

My local rag here in Cardiff has an interview with Wales starlet Ben Woodburn, reflecting on what he's learnt over the last few years. Most relevant bit to Us:
"I have learned so much at Oxford this season, knowing I am able to play 90 minutes and keep fighting for the team. I have taken a lot of kicks and heavy tackles and shown I'm not lightweight.

"I feel like I have had so much experience and yet I am still only young and learning.

"I'm happy that maybe all these people calling me the young lad will realise I am turning into a man and ready for it. I know what I can do and I have to just show it on the pitch."

I guess it must be this game http://www.rageonline.co.uk/mainpage/fi ... 991-05-11/ as that seems to be the only one at the end of the season.

Nice story. Games where goalkeepers play outfield and/or outfield players go in goal always stick in the mind.

I remember Mike Ford donning the gloves at the Manor against Hull once and keeping a clean sheet (Billy Whitehurst was clean through against him at one point and spooned the ball way over the bar and indeed the Cuckoo Lane Terrace I think). Speaking of Hull, didn’t a goalkeeper once come on as an outfield sub at Boothferry and score against Us too? Alan Fettis?

Scott McNiven was another outfield player who ended up in goal for Us - we won that game. Any others?

I have memories of an outfield player in goal for us against Shrewsbury at Gay Meadow once - can't for the life of me remember who it was.
