When did this turn from "The Us in History" to a sub-thread of "Where are they now?" I sort of miss knowing who we were playing on this day in August 1974.

Fascinating stuff. I was struck by both the Portsmouth incident where he got the players to take a 5% pay cut and what he said about getting the Oxford team to lead their own feedback / reflection sessions. Both tell you an awful lot about the leadership qualities of the man.

Hmm, both that article and the one by Pep Clotet on the same site read more like job applications than particularly honest soul-searching. Lots of talk of learning from mistakes without much owning up to them!

The Pompey stuff was interesting, but nothing about why he left Blackpool for Blackburn after only 2 months, nor what went wrong at Ewood Park. And he seems to be blaming the players' losing mentality for starting slowly with Us, forgetting that we'd spent most of the previous few seasons in the top half of the division.

Did we really take 2,500 fans to Austria? Did Appleton really double our average attendances? Some pinches of salt to be taken I think...

Big interview with Luke Foster about his time with Oxfod and after. It could do with a bit of sub editing , but is a good insight to the club at the time and also the pressures of being a lower / non-league professional footballer
