Slumdon Chants

Post by recordmeister »

Following yet ANOTHER foreign signing (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14225523.stm), Let's kick off with the one that opposition supporters usually throw at the England Cricket Team:

&quotYou've got the whole world, in your team. You've got the whole world, in your team. You've got the whole wide world, in your team. You've got the whole world in your team.

You've got a fascist manager, in your team...

You've got Italian rejects, in your team....

You've got a Dutch reject, in your team....

You've got an Irish reject, in your team....

You've got Algerian reject, in your team...

You've got a Namibian reject, in your team...

You've got a Ghanaian reject, in your team...&quot

etc etc

Interesting. Quite difficult to couple anti-fascism with an objection to foreigners through!

There may be legs in your argument, Tom.

For example, here are some famous Oxford United names.

John Aldridge (played for Ireland), Jeremy Charles (born in Swansea), Jim Magilton (a bit like Aldo only north of the border), Matt Elliot (elected to play for Scotland), Ceri Evans (85 caps for New Zealand), Dave Langan (another Irishman), Andre Arendse, Mark Watson etc, etc...

And then we had ‘Big’ Ron Atkinson (who is not a racist at all and even has friends who are of African descent) and Timmy Mallet (not even from this planet, clearly).

Add to that a Chairman who struggles to keep talking in English rather than American (anyone else noticed that?) and a Wugby loving Northern Monkey as an owner.

Oh, and a Tanzanian born bloke holding the keys of the Stadium.

... and Lundin, Antrobus, Louis, Reme, Jeannin, Tardif, Grebis, Curran and a few South Americans although, granted, they weren't all in the team at the same time.

And Kevin Francis (St Kitts and Nevis). Who is now a Mountie in Canada, according to BBC 6 Music of all sources...

It's quite difficult to justify any moral high ground when you have an irrational hatred (or call it what you will) of people just because they're from another town... funny old world, isn't it.

All of the players listed in the chant are signing they've made in this close season. Astonishing, really. 12 new players. Hopefully they won't have gelled at all when we take them on at the County Ground.

That is already sung albeit with slightly different words.

Your sister is your mother
Your father is your brother
You all sh*g each other
A Slumdon family.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the actual words are:

His sister is his mother,
His father is his brother,
They like to shag each other,
The Sw*ndon family!

To the tune of the Addams family, of course. And towards the end of last season I heard a second verse starting up:

They're dirty and they're smelly,
They can't afford a telly,
They're down the A420,
The Sw*ndon family!

Not that I condone songs about Slumdon fans being backward and inbred, of course
