Ground Advertising Revenue

I found out today all that perimeter advertising board revenue will still go to the stadium company next season (i.e. Firoka) and not into the coffers of the club!

I don't know if everyone else knew this and I have been in a bubble, or if it has been kept deliberately under wraps?

I am very suprised that more attention hasn't been drawn to this, because I can't imagine many local companies wanting their 'hard earned' to go out of the club.

(I am going to post this on T.I.U. as well by the way.)

I know that Nick Merry made a brief comment when he took over that all club-associated revenue would now go to the club rather than StadCo. At the time, I raised the question of how this would be possible and whether it had been acheived or whether it was just a wish for the future, but was shouted down by TiUers who took everything said by Merry at face value and, therefore, it must be true.

To be honest, if it remains siuation normal, I woldn't be at all surprised and is likely to stay that way until Merry &amp Co take over the stadium.

That said, I don't think it would hurt the club to make it clear to potential sponsors what revenue stream goes where and, wherever possible, steer them into deals which benefit the club directly. For example, instead of paying for perimeter advertising, how about the sponsorship being used to produce fixture lists/posters to be distributed county wide with one of the free papers emblazoned with the sponors name?

I suppose it all depends how the deal between the club and stad co was put together. It may be that the club gets a reduction in rent to compensate for advertising revenue that goes to the stad co. but I doubt it as it seems the deal for the club without the stadium was done in a hurry.

For some sponsors it won't matter where the money goes as long as they get their brand infront of punters and photographed but for local supporters who advertise they will definitely want to know if the money doesn't go to the club.

Hopefully Merry can come up with some creative alternative sponsorship packages - He talks about creating community and corporate partnerships so we'll have to wait and see what he comes up with. BTW I think the relationship with the Leys News they have announced is a great idea. The club shold be falling over itself to attract people from Blackbird and Greater Leys, particularly as people there can just walk up to the stadium and don't add to traffic/parking pressures.

I agree with the stuff about the Leys News 100%!

What would also be useful in terms of “engagement with the community

If the revenue goes to the stadium company, then surely companies won't even deal with the club when applying for perimeter advertising?

Their deals will be strictly with Firoz's company, so it should be quite apparent to them where their money is going - the stadium company surely cannot pretend to these companies that the deal is with Oxford United.

Of course, as someone said above, these companies might not care much about this aspect as long as they know Oxford fans will see their brand names on advertising boards.

Anyway, what would be useful is for the club (and I don’t see any reason for Chris Williams not to web this up) is to point out to fans who attend games where their money goes outside of the matchday ticket, as I’m not even sure.
The way I see it Kassam doesn't get anything directly from the fans. Ticket and programme sales go to the club and concourse catering goes to Lindleys. The only grey area is the exhibition bar takings.

It will be interesting to see what the stadium looks like next season if the stad co aren't giving any revenue to the club from advertising. Not only will most local advertisers not renew their advertising but the Oxford Mail stand sponsorship has also expired. I can't see Kassam leaving their advertising up if they aren't paying for it.

A bizarre claim Mark.

Where does the money that Lindleys pay go to Mark? I think that probably comes form the fans.
Where does stadium advertising revenue go to? I suspect a significant proportion of those with perimeter boards do so because of their support for the club. Sure not the Nationwide's of this world, but I bet the local companies do.
And where does revenue from the catering vans go to?
Where does the rent the club pays go to?
Where does hospitality revenue go to?
Where does executive box money (apart from the match ticket element) go to?

I won't answer these questions, because we all know the answer already.

For just about all of those things whether 10 fans or 10,000 fans turn up the amount of money payed to Kassam stays the same. Thats what I meant when I said he doesn't get anything DIRECTLY from the fans. Lindleys pay an agreed fee upfrot for the catering rights, the club pays up front for the stadium rent, the burger vans pay a site rental, advertisers pay a set fee, stand s[onsors pay a set fee. The only area I'm not sure about is the bar money (which includes hospitality but I would have thought this is biledby OUFC and then paid to the std co so the club can add their own margin.).

Not bizarre at all Terry if you justs stopped to read what I said.

Yes you did say &quotdirectly&quot, but if you read it literally, its a fairly meaningless statement, in which case maybe I'm just not sure what point you were trying to get across.

It seems (to me) to be meaningless to make a comment about cash changing hands directly from fans to Kassam. I would have thought a far more meaningful issue would be what Kassam does or does not derive a benefit from the fans, which is the point I thought you were trying to comment on. My apologies if you were making the meaningless statement.

It was in response to Snake's comment about telling the fans where there money goes over and above their ticket. None of the money spent on anything else goes to Kassam (other than perhaps the non concourse bar money) He has already been paid everything he is going to be paid OUT OF THE TICKET MONEY. (e.g Stadium rent, club shop rent, caterers concession fees, burger van ground rent, etc..) It makes perfect sense in the context of the question.

How about you stop and think before immediately disagreeing with everything I say just for the sake of it.

Now you've removed the word &quotdirectly&quot.

You see I don't think many would have difficulty with the concept that just because Lindleys and others pay a flat rate, that that money doesn't come from fans contributions from buying food, drink or whatever related services. And those providing the services are hardly going to hang around if only 10 people turn up.

So to say fans money doesn't go to Kassam, outside the ticket, is really stretching a spun point to its limit.

Terry you are prevaricating yet again.

It's a trifle boring.
