Re: Where will we finish?

The last two seasons, we could not be relied on to beat the other teams at the top - yet we still made the play-offs. Thanks to our run-in this time around, this same problem risks us failing to make the play-offs. Honestly, even before we played Ipswich I was concerned this would be the case. Today...

Re: Am I missing something?

The thing for me is what it suggests about KRs view of Seddon. Not sure simply moving players around would have helped, without going to a back four. But that might have unbalanced things elsewhere. What bothered me more was simply the drop off in our play in the second half. We were flat footed, ca...

Re: Where will we finish?

Where will we finish? No idea, but it is going to be one helluva few weeks, with plenty of twists and turns still to go, I am sure. With that backline yesterday and general defensive vulnerability, we might have got away with things - Ipswich will not be so profligate - so I am hoping to get some fi...

Re: Joey

Watching the Quest goals highlights this morning, as they started to speak I had no idea what was coming next. Awful, awful news. I have real trouble remembering individual moments from specific games, but two I remember vividly were the goal against Blackpool (I was right in line with the shot and ...

Re: Pompey Crimes

Still, competing consistently around the top of this league is a big improvement on the previous 20 years. And the games are pretty entertaining. So I'm not complaining. To distract myself from Bolton's late goal on the drive home, I pondered the question of where I felt our par level is currently....

Pompey Crimes

A red card that plenty of people thought was not. A yellow that was the clearest red I can imagine. An away keeper timewasting for most of the 105 minutes. A good chunk of the first half where Pompey players lost their heads. A good chunk of the second half where Oxford players shot wildly rather th...

Re: New signings

Looking back a few months, one view was that we had had the best (summer) transfer window in years. Maybe being in and around the play-off places most of the season so far is confirmation.

But I have been wondering - have we ever reached deadline day with no incomings confirmed?

Re: Four pens worth

Why the surprise? Surely the EPL is really the only football worth reporting on...and with the end of the transfer window imminent there is plenty to occupy the hacks without them having to sully themselves with non-league kickabouts. From what I have read, my sense is that this has never happened b...

Re: Sheff special

I agree with everything said here about our performance overall, and befuddlement over how SWed failed to get anything from the game. But I'll take it. I do not normally pick up on little details, but I did spot Winnall having a quiet word with Bodin as he went over to take that corner. Winnall clea...

Re: Give Us A (Stratfield) Brake

I'm just secretly hoping that sticking an ice rink on the plans is a cunning way of building the community sports hub plus retail/leisure at SB, but ending up with the Oxpens site for the stadium when Cherwell and the local residents object to a football ground in their back yard. But I know that's...

Re: Progress

Last week against Cheltenham, I thought that they negated us effectively, with us unable to find a way by, through or over them. I hoped it was just a bit of a hangover after the Wombles exhibition. Yesterday, though, we were outplayed from start to finish. Of course, had Matty scored early on when ...

Re: the new gamesmanship

I recall disbelief last season when our friends from down the A420 called off a game when perhaps three people had covid, when that included non playing staff. Here we are the best part of 2 years later and the football authorities have still failed to develop clear guidelines around postponement. W...

Re: Progress

Not sure what you mean by "not playing any recognised opposition yesterday". MK were one place and one point behind us at kick-off. If you were referring to the players they had missing, then let us not forget us getting a point from the Rotherham game - a team that has swept aside most op...
