I hope Alex Fisher still gets a chance. I trust Patto as regards our youth for now, but wouldn't if a couple of loanees stopped him getting his chance.

Quote of the week - a positive one this time

&quotAll of the younger lads put in good performances but it was young James Clarke who really caught my eye. He was first class from start to finish and will be training with the first team from now on.&quot Darren Patterson on watching youth players play in the Aldershot friendly. Blimey -...

btw my previous post wasn't meant to indicate that it was a good draw (which is a matter of opinion that is based on different considerations for different people), but merely that Southend are no &quotpoorly supported&quot when you're talking about clubs eligible for the 2nd round.

Eh? They have the fifth highest average crowd in their division, and the seventh of any side that could be involved in the FA Cup 2nd round (one of these - Franchise - has already been knocked out anyway, and a further two are yet to confirm their places in the 2nd round). Only Hereford v Leeds and ...

St Aimee set up our first goal - did anybody notice? He had his moments. I agree with Baboo in that at times he seemed utterly lost, and at others he seemed quite tricky. Anyway...not a great performance, but we did what we had to do, and hopefully we can build from here. Hope Fisher gets more chanc...

Agree with Mally's post above. I'm fairly pleased with this move. Maybe it's more relief at Smith's departure, but I feel even more pleased with Patto's appointment than I thought I would.

I thought earlier this week Jim said we couldn't strengthen before the Northwich game because you needed to register a player a week before an FA Cup game. Now it is reported that the new defender is eligible for Northwich. To be honest, most interest comes from pondering whether this signing provid...

Doesn't he have a bit of a reputation for playing 'direct' (=long-ball) football? And his record at Burnley was hardly brilliant. Then again, he did well at Cheltenham. ANd he does play 4-4-2. Leicester are sniffing around him anyway.

I'd still like Clough or Harvey ahead of anyone, but doubt either could be bothered with a club which is after all below each of theirs, and where the pressure will be much increased with little prospect of early reward. Rosenior would be fine by me too - upsetting some of our &quotmore neandert...

It's annoying that it's tomorrow rather than tonight, because I am free tonight but not tomorrow. Still there's always the second round (hopefully!)
