Re: Should I go to the match?

The arguments are similar to those which many (most?) of the participants on this forum probably use for refusing to subscribe to Sky. Quite apart from the ideological objections to having a Murdoch box in my living room, the fact is that the existence of Sky Sports has made football irreversibly sh...

Re: Should I go to the match?

I would imagine the FL/BBC deal was negotiated along the lines of &quotif you want the commentary rights for local radio, you'll have to let us use it for Premium TV.&quot I would question that assumption. It makes perfect sense for both parties. That's as maybe, but I'm not convinced it ma...

Re: Should I go to the match?

This is nothing to do with the BBC. Except it is, because the BBC allow (presumably for money) their commentaries to be used for this purpose. My argument is that they should not, for the same principle outlined above - that their commentary has been paid for by the licence fee payer, and therefore...

Re: Ian Leneghan

My guess (or rather hope) is that IL wants to go through a proper job advertisement/selection process, and figures that more decent managers are likely to want to put themselves forward for that once the season has ended, as they may be a little pre-occupied at the moment. I figured something simil...

Re: Should I go to the match?

Dan/KY - as I say, it's a point of principle. Radio Oxford broadcasts the commentaries to licence fee payers within FM distance of Oxfordshire, and broadcasts all its other programmes online for free. Making an exception for football and expecting us to pay again to hear the commentary is unjust. Du...

Re: Should I go to the match?

I also don't understand why any exile who wants to keep in touch with OUFC doesn't get Yellow Player. It costs less than a pint of beer per month, much of which goes to the club, and gives you access to live commentaries and extended highlights of every game, plus interviews with players and staff ...

Re: Should I go to the match?

I'm in a similar boat to TomOUFC. I make 6-10 games a season (this year I've managed three aways - all wins! - and another four at home), and this weekend was one where I'd planned to combine a family visit with a home game. But I'm pretty doubtful whether I'll bother. Our season has petered out and...

Re: MAJOR CHANGES NEEDED AT OUFC

I don't agree with the banning of any genuine poster. My point, however, is that Steve F is clearly not a genuine poster. He's a troll on a wind-up mission. The half-baked opinions, the unnecessarily confrontational &quot if this post upsets you I am not sorry and don't care &quot nonsense a...

The former. Can people stop feeding the troll, please. Or, even better, can admin just ban Steve F and save us from having to ignore him.

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round

Southend part company with Paul Sturrock just a fortnight before the JPT final at Wembley. *EDIT* And in what I see as quite an unusual statement Southend chairman Ron Martin announces Sturrock will manage the team at Wembley: http://www.southendunited.co.uk/news/article/240313-club-statement-73164...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good post, that. Especially agree with this bit: ...pumping out the 'hero' rhetoric that serves as ideological justification for continuing conflicts and staring new ones. I've thought for a while that the club should reconsider holding these events I seem to recall the...

Re: Are the fans the problem?

Well, Ian Lenegan certainly agrees with you Yes, and you only have to look at the comments below the Oxford Fail 's article on the subject to see the thanks he gets for it. Lots of muppets saying &quotWell, I been goin' up there for thirty years (Jerome), and 'es only bin there foive minutes an...

Re: Chappers

I'll engage with the subject matter of the thread rather than the rights/wrongs of posting it after a good away win... Two points: 1) Yes, Chapman's two oustanding performances for Mansfield have come in the CONference against poor opposition. But if we'd never heard of the guy and he'd had two exce...

Re: Are the fans the problem?

These two comments defininately resonated with me: I'm getting sick of fans moaning that that &quotwe're giving 100% you should match it&quot when the same fans just sit on their hands the whole game, or worse just mock players. I'm no Wilder apologist, but I can see why he gets a bit defens...

Are the fans the problem?

Given the Jekyll &amp Hyde performances this season, coupled with the clear disparity between our home and away form, is it time to ask whether it is the fans, rather than Wilder or the team, who have to bear the brunt of the criticism for the current levels of dissatisfaction at Grenoble Road? ...
