Yes, that's what I was saying really, in a flippant manner. At this level it's management and coaching that count, teams like FGR don't have players who are great individually, but they are a settled consistent unit with good team spirit and tactics that work.

'Football fans in general don't like criticising players'? You jest sir. I'm in favour of changing the management regularly if they are hopeless, but not the players. I don't ever want to see Kemp, Rix, etc again, but would we be any worse if we'd just kept players like (for example) Jamie Cook and ...

Extreme frustration with the management is completely reasonable, given that we have gone backwards since last year, a season which was itself supremely frustrating. We let some good players go and brought in donkeys, centre halves and loanees. Whatever their faults, does anyone really think that a ...

Like someone earlier in the thread I was again very struck by the similarities betwen England and OUFC. Croatia were even wearing Exeter's away strip! Is lone striker Crouch just a larger, slower version of Yemi, and is Wayne Bridge Jeannin in disguise? But I can't believe all the people who say the...

I do think the quietness is a pretty bad sign. It's been striking all season how quiet this and thisisunited have been. It's not exactly been dull (apart from the football) and there are plenty of players joining and leaving. Are we all just losing interest/the will to live?

This has got to be our worst ever result since we entered the League. It's time to drop these cumbersome hoofers, and bring in some of the promising young reserves and sparky local kids. Oh ...

Same old

Just had an email from a friend who supports Exeter, asking about Steve Basham. He reports that 'He had a ten-day medical with us before signing, then promptly got injured and hasn't started any of the friendlies'.

Well that's a surprise! I was sorry to see him go but maybe it was for the best.

Maybe Burgess asked for a transfer?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if we get say £100,000 for him could we then add that to the £900,000 playing budget?

Just said the same above! A real shame if Burgess is out for the season, and crazy that his last contribution was as some sort of full back.

'Jim not Mourinho' shock claim

Why on earth does Jim pick a completely different team and formation for every game? It might for work for Mourinho, but this is the Conference, and we're playing against teams that make a virtue out of team spirit and consistency rather than individual skill. It's ludicrous to expect our lot to lea...

But what a great game. Second half was like being at the Manor, I swear the pitch started sloping after our first goal! I like to see Burgess in the middle with Hargreaves behind him, and Jim certainly got it right there, though God knows what the idea was in the first half. Yemi - fantastic. What w...

Second in the Conference is better than nearly all the other teams in the division, yes, but I think some people are getting cynical about Smith because we should be doing much better. Not because we're the mighty Oxford United, but because we have much more money and experience at our disposal than...

Aye, harsh but fair, at this level it must all be about management and coaching - I can't believe Stroud and Kidderminster have such thoroughbred players that we can't compete. We've been unlucky to be without our best forward nearly all season, but Smith hasn't responded to the situation, even thou...
