Re: Ched Evans
I suggest anyone who really would rather Evans didn't come to Oxford contact the club and make their views known. It might well not have much effect, but you never know. (I dropped them an email, though wasn't sure which address best to use, so goodness knows...!)

Re: Ched Evans
I've been depressing myself by reading more accounts of the case, and its aftermath. It's bloody appalling. Many societies have had discrimination against women codifed in law, and we're not clear of that situation yet. https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/ched-evans-footballer-rape-trial-acquitted-...

Re: Ched Evans
And, of course, legal decisions can be morally wrong. That's why people campaign to get such laws changed. A specific modern day example being this idea that a woman's sexual history should count against her in rape cases.

Re: Ched Evans
Well, I guess in the age of President Trump*, people are not uncomfortable being represented by people who treat women as disposable objects. I'd hope it would give decent people pause for thought though.

Re: Ched Evans
An article written shortly after the Evans retrial, which puts his behaviour in a wider context of just how it is for women in the world of football: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... pect-women

Re: Ched Evans
It should also be remembered about rape cases that there is a far far lower conviction rate than for other violent crimes. (Enough to put off a lot of victims even reporting the crime.) And there is also little evidence to suggest that there is a greater incidence of victims lying about the crime. T...

Re: Ched Evans
There was an extremely controversial use of the woman's sexual history in the retrial (which was presented as "new evidence" in the case). He admitted he had sex with her, and CCTV showed her to be extremely drunk (stumbling about). She was evidently very badly affected by the case, and he...

Re: Ched Evans
I agree. He was recently linked with Portsmouth and an outpouring of distaste from their fans put the club off. (In fact they then denied even having an interest. Maybe we can do the same somehow?

Re: LEAGUE ONE 2019-2020
Accrington is the only* one I've not been to - was going to go this time, but their presence in the fourth round of the FA Cup put paid to that. (As it did with Wigan the previous season - it's like a conspiracy!)

I think he's a *left* back, who will provide potential back-up to Ruffels?

Chris Wilder
Congratulations to Chris Wilder, who has just achieved the "full set" of promotions (5 -> 4 with Oxford, 4 -> 3 with Northampton, and 3 -> 2-> 1 with Sheffield Utd). One of my all-time favourite Oxford managers, and one who was sadly undervalued by many of our fans at the end. Who knows wh...

Yeah, indeed - there's no way I'm counting any chickens just yet, whatever the form table might say.
