Wasn't it a pleasure to beat such a negative, unattractive side?

Goalscoring trivia

Yesterday, we started with ten outfield players who had already scored for Oxford. We then used two subs who had scored as well.

It must be long time since this was last true, and although in one sense it is just trivia, it also shows a greater stability (and goalscoring instinct) in the side.

Of course, I agree with both the analysis and the proposed outcome. However, just one parallel: if an athlete (or a footballer) fails a drugs test, then it is no defence that another athlete or player might also have been guilty had they been tested - it is a random check, and the guilty party has t...

I confess to be excited about this signing. Clist is a player I have admired every time we have played FGR - and I don't usually take that much notice of the opposition! The length of contract and the (small, presumably) fee suggest that the finances of the club are not too perilous, or that CW has ...

I would add to that Willmott - the first time I have really been convinced by him since his return from injury. I think one can begin to see Wilder's style, not just his influence. The only negative about that seemed to me that in the first half, we played quite a lot of neat football in their half ...

I agree with all contributors that what Sam said was wrong, unacceptable and offensive. I agree entirely with the actions taken by the club. What follows is no attempt to 'excuse' or minimise what he did. However, I believe RO should do whatever helps Sam best realise the significance of what he did...

To go back a bit, the list of players on contract in August 09 could be a lot worse. Like Boris, I would try and keep Constable, but the others at least have to prove themselves.

Do we know what players Wilder developed or spotted at Halifax? Martin Foster?

I think we should be fair about the process. We asked for an objective appointment process, and KT's interview in the Mail suggests just that. I interview a lot in another context, and an interview is designed to test whether the candidate comes across as their references (formal or informal) sugges...

Just a footnote to POU's excellent contribution: apprenticeships are still available, but often in high-value employment, such as specialist engineering, where they are in competition with more academic routes. In more craft-based sectors, I think the cost of training and maintaining employees is hi...

No! As I posted elsewhere, a thug devoid of talent. Surely his recent track record should rule him out of even superficial consideration. File under WPB..... oh, and he missed the closing date.

Yep, voles taste yukky for your average feline. Our (distinctly not-fat) cat kills them and leaves them.

But there is a reason for this, isn't there? The average fan (suppose it exists) knows it can't play football very well, but also thinks it would love to have the opportunity to be paid for playing football ('being paid to do what you love' &amp other cliches). So when those who are paid appear ...

The timing should have been influenced by two things - firstly, whether we were getting anywhere, or whether in fact Torquay just showed the same weaknesses over again and secondly, whether changing the manager now might make a medium-term difference. I suppose the play-offs are just about possible,...

I voted for Haldane for the same reasons. I thought both Guy and Yemi looked below par yesterday. Yemi in particular was very static (and central), which did not help other to find him with the ball. However, my main complaint (and it often seems thus) is that if something works, we don't try it aga...

I thought we shaded yesterday anyway, and deserved the win, in that we had a sub who came on and offered something different, which in turn created the goal. I think Matt D is unfair. We were rarely troubled at the back, due in no small part to Day and Willmott putting in decent performances. Day in...
