I remember when I first went to Melb'n back in 1989 or '90, whenever, and England were beaten 5-0 in the Ashes. Everyone down the pub started to take the piss out of me so I told them that I couldn't give a toss about cricket a statement that was met with either disbelief or bemusement. Luckily ther...

And, of course, the opposite also applies: a player may be notionally of Division 4 standard (or even better) but, for whatever reason, his presence in the side may mean that the collective plays less well. The dynamics of human social interaction means that football management can never be an exact...

I expect that depends on the nature of the defeat. Yes, we're expected to lose and if we go down by a couple of goals whilst missing a few chances ourselves then no one would be particularly surprised. But if it's another Bradford, or we surrender meekly without putting up a fight, or Wilder plays a...

I wouldn't want Magilton here simply because of his previous Oxford connections. We've already seen Malcolm Shotton's memory tarnished, plus all the Moodys, Jemsons, Fords, Gilchrists, Currans, etc. who have returned for second spells and failed to cover themselves in their previous glory. If Wilder...

Re:

Short memories: Dave Woozley? Lee Molyneaux? Even Paul McCarthy? Ian McGuckin, Colin Greenall. I trump all of these with Dave Collins. And for the record I agree with Wilder that Beast, Day, Midson and LSD aren't good enough for L2 (plus one or two others who are still at the club). The only questi...

&quotIf you never visited Saltergate, then you missed out on a treat&quot I assume whoever said that was being ironic. Saltergate was a dump, with rivers of open sewage running through the concourse. Not quite as bad as the Manor, though. Plus the bastards screwed me for a £60 parking fine l...

According to the South Wales Argus, Oxford are keen to make the move permanent and it wouldn't be &quottoo onerous&quot on Newport's finances.

You should never trust a website with the word 'mad' in the title.

It was Oxford City who Gillingham beat in '33.

We have met Oxford United 33 times in League and Cup action. Our first was back in 1933 in the FA Cup 1st round which we won 5-1 at the old Manor Ground.
Actually Oxford (or Headington as we were then) didn't enter the FA Cup in 1933.
