Re: Safety in numbers

With safety now seemingly confirmed, it's time for an inquest into what went so wrong this season for a team who had been tipped for (and had the budget for) a playoff place ended up spending most of the year fighting relegation. For me, there were four things (more to follow in due course, probably...

It seems that the club has taken a first step in not going out of its way to annoy Kassam.
If only that were the case....
Well done, Nostradamus. Seeing as you've got the inside track on what's happening, what other joyous revelations should we be expecting?

Re: WhyCom-plain

...for now we need to establish ourselves as a solid 3rd division side. Even if we were to 'risk' going up, under our current circumstances I fear it would be a nightmare season in the 2nd. For a stronger and more sustainable push for promotion, we need a much more solid financial base than current...

WhyCom-plain

Amidst all of the (justifiable) angst about our non-playing staff having their wages delayed, we should take a moment to celebrate another three points on Saturday against local non-rivals Wycombe. To battle back and win in the manner we did showed good character, and Ruffels' goal will live long in...

Re: Sent to Coventry

Yup - win two of the games against Wycombe, Walsall, Shrewsbury and Wimbledon and I think we're fine. And given our current form, that seems eminently doable. Whilst I'm delighted in the uptick in form and the increasing likelihood of Third Division football again next season (and wouldn't be so chu...

Re: Chaos

Instead of being pig headed the ref took his time, spoke to all officials and came to the correct view. Would have been all too easy to just stick to the goal kick he had given and wave away protests. By taking the time to get it right I think he did an excellent job, although he could have helped ...

Re: Chaos

Agree with all of that. No system, even VAR, is perfect. Sometimes fans and managers just need to accept that you get the run of the green on some decisions and not on others. And luck also has a relationship with quality - if Bradford has scored into an open goal, it wouldn’t have been a goal kick,...

Re: Chaos

I always pay close attention to goal kicks played short (an odd habit of mine) and the ball only just crossed the line before Ruffs touched it, but it was definitely out of the box. Are you sure about that , Doc? In my view, play should have been brought back - but, having not done so in the immedi...

Re: What a let down

Q. Will next season's budget be the same as this year, will it be better or worse? KR [long pause, nervous laugh] I know what it is, we're having a conversation about it now. It won't be better... I should bloody well hope not. When you've had a top ten budget (at least) and - to use the common par...

Re: What a let down

For me, the obvious answer is to play two up front - Sinclair and Graham would be my choice, with Mackie and Jonte Smith on the bench or as backup. Play 4-4-2, with a midfield diamond involving Mousinho in front of the back four, Whyte and Browne on the wings and either Brannagan or Henry in the ce...

Re: What a let down

Gobbo has to go. Indeed, but he clearly isn't going to be fired at this stage. The best we can hope for is that he goes in the summer, although I can't see it happening. The question, therefore, is that if we can't change our manager or squad, how do we get the points we need to survive? For me, th...

Re: What a let down

Well I thought last night showed a lot of positives. Granted, Rochdale looked very poor and very much there for the taking, and we failed to score against them - but it was a full-blooded, committed performance and we were streetwise and positive in our play. Also, to be fair to KR, his team selecti...

Re: La grande coupe d'Oxfordshire

Thanks for this, Otmoor - useful reading for those of us who weren't really following this fixture! Lopes has looked good on the few occasions I've seen him, and seems like one who could make the step up. It's a shame there are so many ahead of him in the pecking order really. That seems to be a sys...

Re: Boycott the Blackpool match?

Funnily enough, I dropped a line to the Blackpool Supporters Trust last season when I was considering going to the same fixture, to ask what their view was on away fans boycotting. The gist of their reply was that they understood away fans might not observe the boycott in the same way and were fairl...

Re: Which would you choose?

With respect, Myles, I think that's an argument against reckless unsustainable borrowing rather than owning our own ground! We're in agreement though that by far the best scenario would be for Oxford United to play at a serviceable, league-standard ground owned by a benign trust in the hands of its ...
