Re: End of season
As for the 'fans' who follow the new club, the argument is often made that they're just supporting their local team. [...] they chose to support a Pariah Club and shouldn't be allowed to forget it. Very little of what you say contradicts anything I wrote, and I agree with most of your first few par...
Re: Gulp!
Scandalous, isn't it. Not least because the police already have the power to arrest you for Drunk & Disorderly. This new gimmick is therefore completely unnecessary. Indeed, if you're not being Disorderly then is there really a good reason to arrest you just for being Drunk? At least with D&...

Re: End of season
Like Jimski, I have friends who are AFCW fans who were appalled by the way the media reported the games between their side and Franchise. It wasn't a "chance for revenge", it didn't "add a bit of extra spice" and it was not "the ultimate grudge match". All of those line...

End of season
Bit surprised no-one's commented on yesterday's win and the close of the season. I thought we were good value for our win yesterday, albeit in a dead rubber against a decidedly average Newport team. A decent goal, a superb away following and maybe just maybe we have reason to feel a glimmer of optim...

Re: Adams Out!
What is the alternative to accepting Eales' word? In reality there is little anyone could do to prevent his approach to club ownership, and even if there were, the result would be being left with a large pile of poo and a paucity of shovels, and therefore probably no football club. I don't think th...

Re: Adams Out!
I'm entirely with you on sustainability. I've spouted it on here for years. However, I would say that if Eales wishes to spunk his own cash on OUFC without consequence for OUFC (and by publicly stating he will write off any debts since he took over, he is effectively saying that) then I for one am ...

Re: Adams Out!
The club is pretty well run I would say. Decent youth set up, high level women's set up, club initiatives to attract new fans, children's activities, loads of community schemes, coaching courses, investment in the first team squad, investment in coaching set up, scouting network, use of sports scie...

Re: Adams Out!
I guess going into this summer break we will be in the same position as we were at the same point last year with Waddock. We have a manager who has been underwhelming during his spell in charge, and there are legitimate concerns about how we will fare. However, the owners are going to stick with the...

Re: Adams Out!
No doubt the Appleton adoring disciples will lay claim to anyone who disagrees as being "haterz" as they go on bended knee to their messiah! Unless that was written tongue-in-cheek, it's a little below the belt. The only thing of which any of us is a disciple is Oxford United Football Clu...

Re: Don ('t) stop me now
Ashdown did well in goal, coming for the ball when necessary, and staying back when there was ample defensive cover. He looked safe on high balls and he made a couple of decent saves. Funny. I wasn't at the game (Jerome), but an AFCW-supporting friend was, and his texts to me during the match said ...

Re: Ten games to go
We have definitely improved since I last saw us in January, and that's encouraging. I'm still very undecided on Appleton, but we'll stay up this year, and I guess he'll get a chance next year - so now the focus has to be on building, bringing through the excellent crop of youngsters and trying to s...

Re: Ten games to go
Three observations: 1) The pitch is indeed awful. I'd love to know what has been done/said behind the scenes to ensure we don't have the same problem next year. 2) I thought Hoban looked good - excellent positional play, excellent work-rate, strong and combative. I think if he gets a goal, plenty mo...

Re: OxVox AGM: this Saturday
I'm afraid that for me, Mark's interview with Jerome just showed that he (Mark) doesn't really understand the economics or planning situation of either the Kassam Stadium or Water Eaton. Considering the amount of time and effort Mark has put in on this issue, I would suggest that he actually unders...

Re: Where are they now?
Happy birthday Joey Beauchamp - 44 today. Only spotted it because I looked up his Wikipedia entry after re-watching the 1997/98 season video whilst doing some ironing this afternoon (yes, I am that cool). He got 19 goals that season from midfield , many of them absolute beauties, in a team blighted ...
