Re: Where are they now?

Former loanee Christian Edwards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Edwards has guided Cardiff Met University to the Europa League! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48342552 When you read the subsequent qualifying rounds required you realise what a nonsense it is! https://www.walesonline.co...

Re: Summer transfers 2019

If you'd told me that Sam Allardyce would be coming to Oxford United , I wouldn't have believed you! I'm heartened by the addition so far of promising young players on their way up. They won't all succeed, and there'll be some slip-ups on the way that might even cost us points a few times. But the m...

Re: Summer transfers 2019

He can play on either side, which in itself is a good reason to sign him - but he has mostly played on the left in recent years. Looks like a decent addition, albeit one for the future.

Re: (Not) Retained List

As for Kelleher, presumably the same goes for him. But why sign him, then send him on loan for two seasons rather than play him in the U23 squad and look to bring him through that way? Anybody know the story behind that? As I remember it, he was signed right at the death of Appleton’s reign, probab...

Re: Resumé

Let's start by revisiting what we as fans predicted before the start of the season . Much has been made about our "Top 7 budget", but amongst those of us who post on here, expectations were much more muted: - Me: 14th - Neil W: 9th - Dr Bob: 8th - Jimski: Bottom half - Werther's Original: 10th or 11...

Re: The Priory.

Perhaps someone with better knowledge of planning issues could advise why the council could not simply withdrawn permission for the hotel on grounds of breach of conditions, and force Kassam to pull the hotel down, extreme though that reaction might seem. I don’t profess to be an expert, although I...

Re: The Priory.

I always thought it was a crying shame that permission for the Hilton hotel wasn’t predicated on the Priory being an actual part of that development. It seems sacrilege to me that you’d build a utilitarian modern building next to a beautiful old fenced-off, boarded-up tumble-down building rather tha...

Re: Chris Wilder

CNEMWO OK I give up. Back in the day of Rage On as a physical fanzine you could buy with money, there was a running joke about Denis "Next England Manager" Smith (Out), aka DNEMSO, lampooning both his claims that he had once been under consideration for the national job and also how far he'd fallen...

Re: You're winding me up!

Anyone else anticipating a club statement in a week or so regarding the ownership of Oxford United? It's long been rumoured that Erick Thohir is the likely chairman in the long-term and that Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth will make a quick buck from his brief tenure and then ride off into the sunset. Tho...

Re: Chris Wilder

Given the situation we were in, why was he (IIRC) offered a one year rolling contract? The Prosecution would argue that we had stagnated after two years of mid-table finishes in Div 4, and the quality of football had been pretty dismal at times. They would add that Wilder had been backed in the loa...

Re: Robbed versus Rovers

Ty - yes, sorry, I expressed myself badly; have edited my post accordingly. What I meant is that at times the large number of loanees got in the way of allowing those promising home-grown youngsters to develop. Napa is a case in point, as he was sent off to Macclesfield despite KR rating him, becaus...

Re: Chris Wilder

people are still glad he left us - the mind boggles! Straw man argument. Nobody has said that. Let's also not forget that home game against Torquay where he marched out of the ground without doing any media, and allowed speculation to grow on his position and what was happening within the club. Wha...

Re: Robbed versus Rovers

We wuz robbed. Then again, if on some of our numerous other attacks our front players could have made better decisions about when to shoot and when to pass, those two bad decisions would have been utterly irrelevant. Quite. A lot was made about the offside-that-wasn't involving Sinclair, and the ha...

Re: Chris Wilder

I'm with RR - Wilder leaving Oxford was the right thing for both parties at the time. Indeed, I'd wager that departing Grenoble Road played a significant part in sharpening Wilder's ability as a manager. At Northampton, he had to work much better with what he had rather than always signing another l...

Re: 10 is the magic number

As someone who has been openly and vocally critical of Karl Robinson, I feel duty-bound to acknowledge his role in our excellent recent form. Whilst I still wouldn't shed any tears if he left tomorrow, I feel much more positive about our prospects for next season, especially if the right lessons hav...
