Re: No more Payne

Interesting question that might support this argument. Does any Championship club, that doesn't benefit from parachute payments, make a profit? If you go to slide 7 in the link, for 2013/14 only three clubs made a profit in the Championship: Blackpool, Wigan, Yeovil So Wigan and Blackpool presumabl...

Re: No more Payne

I don't see the point of bankrolling and potentially bankrupting the club just to survive in the Championship. I would rather the club kept largely within its affordability, and if that means we bounce between the Championship and League 1, so be it. I think there are several aspects to this. 1 - t...

Re: Blackpool - a few questions

Two important wins to get a bit of confidence back. We would have been looking very nervously at the league table right now otherwise. I liked the comment from behind me on Saturday. "we've got a free kick on the left, so let's make a sub with a left-footed player" - as if that was what our tactics ...

Re: OUFC Youth - Where are they now

https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/1206/925451-what-became-of-the-class-of-97/ This article mentions a goalkeeper, Paul Whelan, released by Oxford United, playing in the youth cup world cup finals in 1997. I can't see him in the main player database, so was he a youth team player, or is it Oxford ...

Re: This suspected takeover

I see on the dark side that questions have been asked about Oxvox in relation to the suspected takeover but nothing has been forthcoming. I wonder what enquiries they have made and what they think? And why they're so quiet? And no, I'm not a member! I suspect that Oxvox having been introduced to th...

Re: Doom and Gloom

Our whole game plan seemed to rely on passing the ball around the back four and without ever really trying to move the ball forward. Even when the ball did get forward, there were no strikers in the middle to even play a ball onto. So it seemed our only chances were rare corners where the aim seemed...

Re: Pep Clotet

There's a great write up in The Football League Paper this week about Pep. Definitely sounds like he's a decent manager in the making, rather than a makeweight.
