Re: Tykes thumping

I've held off posting until now so I could calm down. But that was absolutely woeful. A dire, dire performance. Yes, Barnsley are a good team, but that doesn't excuse not competing, not showing for the ball, not appearing to give a shit. Fullbacks - very inauspicious starts to their OUFC careers. Fo...

Re: Stadium matters

Silver linings - well there aren't many. One though is that I understand we can renew the playing rights in 7 years time and so Kassam can't bulldozer the place. I think a little bulldozing might improve the place! It's all so predictably depressing. Usually the one thing that GY/OY and I agree on ...

Re: Where are they now?

Speaking of Torquay, some South West football news irrelevant to OUFC but in which some of you might be interested: Following the approval by Cornwall Council earlier this year of a new Stadium for Cornwall near Truro, which will host both Cornish Pirates rugby and Truro City FC, the latter are havi...

Re: Have I Got Old News For You

Hmm, both that article and the one by Pep Clotet on the same site read more like job applications than particularly honest soul-searching. Lots of talk of learning from mistakes without much owning up to them! The Pompey stuff was interesting, but nothing about why he left Blackpool for Blackburn af...

Re: New signings

This Sam Smith deal seems to be dragging on and on. As I understand it, Reading are (quite sensibly) waiting to confirm the signing of Sam Baldock before letting Sam Smith come to us. Yeah I get that, it's just a shame not to have players here for a bit of pre-season. Especially ones without much m...

Re: New signings

I take the point about over-promising, but there has to be a little leeway here and there. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I think we may see up to 3 new names at the club. Sam Smith (from Reading) Jamie Mackie (from QPR) Marcus Brown (from West Ham) Well the timescale was a bit out, but we have now seen two ...

Re: New signings

The Fail seems to be dating that story 16 July. Today is 17 July. Give KR a chance! It was online at 7am yesterday. I'm sure there was a similar story a couple of days before the squad flew to Ireland too. As KE says, we all understand that transfers take time these days (especially loans from PL/C...

Re: New signings

Cheers OY. I see that a player called Armani Little played (and scored a brace) against City. What is the world coming to? I also see that two attacking players did not join OUFC within 24 hours of KR saying this: http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/16355880.karl-robinson-expects-two-attacking-players...

Re: New signings

Michael Doughty (ex QPR and Peterborough) played in a friendly at Hampton and Richmond on Saturday and stays on trial for the week . Robinson said of him: “This was the first game he’s played and he’s not trained. He did OK, didn’t he? “He did better than anyone else in midfield, which says it all f...

I mean, it’s all pens and lucky deflections isn’t it...?!
Good thing penalties count isn't it? What's that, 4 hours of football without England scoring a goal from open play?

It's coming home!

Re: Retained list

I wondered whether we'd hear Kelleher's name mentioned any time soon - a quick scan of the Solihull Moors forum the other day (yes yes, too much time on my hands) suggests he has very much failed to set the world alight there. His contract runs until summer 2019 though, so I'd imagine he'll either ...

Re: Harry Kane vs Rob Duffy

So England changed the personnel but showed the same weaknesses - profligacy in front of goal, defenders backing off opposition players running towards and into the box, not blocking crosses (or shots in the case of the goal). And a central midfielder who seems to think it's rugby and he's not allow...

Re: Harry Kane vs Rob Duffy

Completely different sports though - there are natural breaks between every single ball of a cricket match, whereas the flow of football (and a potentially crucial incident) could be interrupted by a tactical VAR 'appeal'. From what I've seen of it in rugby it works better (although not perfectly). ...
