Re: Seasons greetings

Happy New Year all. And what an amazing year it's been. 364 days ago I was at Home Park watching our third woeful capitulation in a row to teams in the relegation places, a result which left us 22nd in the table with twice as many defeats as wins. I had no hope at all that Robinson was the man to ta...

Re: Man City

Yep, it was a million miles more fun than last time we lost to them. We tried to keep it tight and just hang in there in the first half, and mostly succeeded except for the one occasion that Ruffels got sucked into trying to compete for a ball on the halfway line and left an acre of space behind him...

Re: Man City

What we did last time. Give it our best shot, but once Man City have sauntered to a 2-0 lead, we plead with Mr Guardiola for a non-aggression pact whereby we won't injure any of his starlets as long as they don't humiliate us! Surely ‘what we did last time’ is get 1 forward (Obika) to harry their d...

The others were Steve Hardwick who (at least according to this site http://www.goalkeepersaredifferent.com/ ... epers.html) scored 8 goals
I don’t believe that. Unless he played up front for the youth team or something. But 8 first team goals for Newcastle United? No way.

Re: Have I Got Old News For You

Wasn't it Blackpool? No idea who the other keeper who scored against us was. Speaking of goalscoring keepers I believe we have had 4 not already mentioned who have scored goals (albeit not for us). One is easy to get, one scored 8 goals over the course of his career, one was probably our most famou...

Re: Play up Pompey

Yeah... well I personally wished there had been fewer Orient fans at the home game in 2005/6. So long as we sell out to home fans, I couldn’t give a flying firoz about away fans. Give ‘em the minimum allocation, always. But we’re not selling out to home fans are we? In fact we’re averaging about th...

Preston retro game - when goalkeeper Alan Kelly played on the wing with his arm in a sling. https://www.lep.co.uk/sport/football/preston-north-end/pne-news/preston-retro-game-when-goalkeeper-alan-kelly-played-on-the-left-wing-with-his-arm-in-a-sling-against-oxford-united-in-1971-1-10088554 http://w...

Re: Play up Pompey

Also our current three seasons in the third tier I don't remember ever being as high as fourth. Depends how you count it. When Gino van Kessel bamboozled the Pompey defence to seal a 3-0 win two short seasons ago, we went top of the L1 table with 6 points from 2 games. So we've been higher than fou...

Re: Cup draw

Yep - home to Villa or Leicester probably the only two less enticing draws than this for me. Would have loved a trip to a proper big PL ground. Oh well, we’re a better team now than when we played them last. Anyone know how many ties are televised? Man U v Colchester is a shoe-in for TV, but we must...

Re: Cup draw

Definitely not Colchester away! I don't know, it would be a new ground to visit at least. Probably get a better view than at Layer Road too, though I have fond memories of half-seeing Phil Whelan score a winning goal while sat on his arse there once. Anyone else noticed that we've been drawn at hom...

Cup draw

1-1 against Sunderland - who’d have thunk it? In recent previous versions of that result we’ve been unlucky not to win. Last night not so much. A slightly scratchy performance against a team who were considerably better than Rochdale. We rode our luck in the first quarter as Sunderland looked to get...

Re: Scoring in the Rain

It does feel wrong to be critical, but I also thought we should have put Rochdale to bed a bit earlier, particularly once they went down to ten men. Not just because we seemed to take our foot off the gas a bit, but there were some sloppy moments too. But we are a pleasure to watch at the moment, an...

Womble

Just seen on Facebook the news that one of our this forum's members, Andy James aka Womble, has died. It will be strange and sad not to see him at away games. I knew he'd been ill, but the last time I had a good chat with him - on New Year's Day walking from Home Park to Plymouth Station - he seemed...

Re: George Thorne

He was the real bright spark in the first quarter of the West Ham game too. Real quality passing. Shame for him and Us too I reckon.

At least we have Baptiste who seems to do a similar job. As long as he stays injury free for once...
