Re: M40

Being realistic, I can't help feeling we've dodged a very expensive bullet. Wycombe will be straight down, and the poorer for it. We might have been the same. Wycombe may well be straight back down and the richer for it if they play their cards right. As OY points out, there's no need to spend abov...

Re: M40

If we win, my cask strength Laphroaig will be jumping out of the bottle into my glass, insisting that we share the moment... Not as good, but I’ve got a 12-year-old Knockando waiting for the nod. I’ll raise a glass to you, squire, if we get the result we all want... All this talk of bottles seems r...

Re: M40

Nerves starting to kick in now. Its annoying that I've got to spend the day trying to concentrate on work and zoom meetings rather than jumping on trains and pub-hopping round London with fellow yellows. It's the 'new normal' I guess. The idea of Championship football is a bit surreal too after our ...

Re: Playoffs

Also why can't we and Wycombe have 20,000 fans for the final, if we can return to pubs surely a 80,000 seater stadium can have some fans in it. 20,000 Wycombe fans? You're joking surely. I had to laugh when Ainsworth said they would have packed Wembley out if fans were allowed in. My meeting finish...

Re: Playoffs

Just flicking through the digital programme for tonight's game I came across this gem: "If Oxford or Portsmouth win promotion this season then it will be a first because to date neither has ever gone up via the end-of-season play-offs. United's only experience of play-offs came in the Blue Square Pr...

Re: Playoffs

I can't believe the second leg has come around so soon - I've barely recovered from the first match so I don't know how the players must be feeling. I don't know whether it's the time of year or because we haven't had any football for so long but the whole thing feels a bit like a World Cup campaign...

Re: Playoffs

Spot on about Woodburn. I couldn't believe he was in the starting line-up, and he might as well not have been. Sykes did more with his first touch than Woodburn had done in 55 minutes. I was surprised he wasn't subbed before half time. It reminded me of his performances earlier in the season, with a...

Re: Playoffs

Yeah I finally succumbed to NowTV passes last summer for the cricket World Cup and Ashes. It felt a bit dirty but my refusing to pay for Sky for twenty-odd years didn't seem to have changed anyone's minds about the availability of sport on terrestrial TV! And it's reasonably priced, and you can turn...

Some sobering thoughts about Covid's effect on lower league footballers feature towards the end of this interesting and thought provoking article about Billy Kee:

Michael Standing (possibly the one who played briefly for us) involved in court cases regarding the ownership and funding of Slumdon Town. http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2020/1171.html http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2020/1173.html Yes, it appears to be that Michael Standing . Re: How would you end it?

I think the league needs to have some idea of what next season is going to look like before making final decisions about this one. Football is going to change dramatically, at least in the short-to-medium term. Will clubs survive? What will the structure and timescales be? Those are more important q...

Re: Furlough

So there should be an opportunity to get some more revenue there (and maybe even share it more evenly if more matches are broadcast) Highly sceptical of that. I confidently predict any TV deal will make the rich clubs richer whilst the smaller clubs rely on iFollow revenues (which will be a fractio...

Re: Furlough

For non-PL clubs, especially lower down, if games are played behind closed doors, even resuming matches would not see revenues return, as there is next to no TV coverage to speak of. I reckon almost all matches will be 'televised' in some form or another. I don't mean park football, but certainly d...
