Re: Wigan warblings

The big result for us last night wasn't our game - it was the goalless draw between Rochdale and Oldham. I still think two more points will see us safe, and last night's performance against a side who'll be playing in the second tier next year suggests to me that we've got what it takes to pick up t...

Re: Ball boys

I see one of our ballboys provoked the Southend goalkeeper into a tussle for the ball on Saturday. I saw someone said the other day that KR seems to be asking his players to learn to "cheat" a bit more. Whilst we are still in a precarious position near the foot of the table, I guess three points is...

Re: Going Down??

And at the end, what was the big team hug on the pitch all about? Good performance and everything but it gave the sense of job done, which (going against my first sentence) it might not be, but really scrabbling to stay in the league given our position at christmas is nothing to be particularly pro...

Re: Going Down??

Pep was about twice as good as 'anyone-but-Pep'. His slightly gung-ho approach to matches meant that despite looking dodgy defensively we were able to click and sweep poorer opponents aside often enough to maintain a healthy league position. But he pronounced the word focus oddly, and some of the s...

Re: Going Down??

God that was a punch to the guts, especially after creating so many chances (20-odd shots over the course of 90 minutes?) -although even that is a damning indictment of our anaemic front line. When we got relegated in 2006, I didn't really feel anything. It was a horrible, numbing sensation. I was s...

Re: Spotafan Trophy 2017-18 / #BTeamBoycott

I see that Half Man Half Biscuit's forthcoming album will have a track called 'Swerving the Checkatrade'. Very much looking forward to the new album. It feels like ages since the last one. Back on topic, this is a damning an analysis of the revised format and its failure. No one - not even Shaun Ha...

Re: Oldham Oxford

1. Will Oxford win, lose or draw? WIN 2. Will at least one of Obika, Thomas or Mehmeti score? NO 3. Will Oxford keep a clean sheet? NO 4. Will Henry play the whole 90+ minutes? YES 5. Will Oxford be in 17th place after all Saturday's games? YES Tiebreaker: Total attendance. 6,723

Big pile of poo-sbury (not really)

What, no comment from anyone about the last two competitive games of Oxford United Football Club? Does anyone care anymore‽ Although we lost today, I’m more positive tonight than I was when walking into the ground. As with Scunny and Portsmouth, we were behind at half-time but looked a lot stronger ...

Re: Tiger

It's a relatively minor and relatively sensible change, IMHO. I fully agree that leveraging the wider awareness and 'brand identity' (urgh) of Oxford is a Good Thing, and all they've really done is add the club's name above the favoured Ox Head logo. A few people have got their knickers in a twist o...

Re: Stadium matters

Had to laugh at Roo's comment above about "taking Ka$$am at his word" when I clicked on this thread just now to add this link to today's story about Uncle Firoz rowing back on promises he made to restore the Priory pub. Good to see the council actually having the courage of their convictions for onc...

Re: Who do you want next?

It is getting silly now. I fully expected us to appoint a manager on Monday or Tuesday this week - but it's now looking less and less likely that we'll have someone new in time for Saturday's game (and certainly not to have any real quality training ground time to get to know the players beforehand)...

Today, 22 years ago(!), Oxford United beat Sw*ndon Town 3-0 at The Manor , with goals from Elliot, Aldridge and Beauchamp. For those of you wanting to relive this great moment in our history, the highlights are available . Half my life ago, that. What a game! What a night! What a season! What I'd g...

Re: Where are they now?

Interesting - and a tad surprising - to see Michael Appleton's name crop up in this article about suspicious betting patterns involving Albanian side Skenderbeu. Fear not though: MApp is the good guy: Another cornerstone will be the findings of an “expert panel” whose members included the Leicester ...
