Birmingham fans are a nasty bunch. The only two occasions that I remember feeling properly threatened by away fans at the Manor were by Brummies. And St Andrews was always extremely unwelcoming - made worse by that horrible walk from New Street station.

I suppose it depends on how old you are and what eras you can remember. Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth, Chelsea and Millwall stand out for me as particularly unsavoury visitors in the late 70's/early 80's.

Oh I've certainly felt pretty scared with other team's fans around the Manor too - I was once the first person onto a minibus into town after a game, which then filled up with Millwall fans, who proceeded to 'joke' about killing the (Asian) driver and throwing him into the street all the way down Headington Hill. I was the only Oxford fan on board, and was very scared for 15 minutes, but kept my mouth shut and tried to look invisible. And I remember Pompey and Leeds fans scaring me too. But it was only ever Brummies that directly threatened violence towards me, and on both occasions when I was minding my own business, and in broad daylight with plenty of people about.

I'm sure you're right about the eras though - it was the late 80's before I started going on my own, and using public transport to get to games. So I'm sure I missed the worst excesses of hooliganism. There seemed to be plenty going on up until about the early 90's though, from what I could gather.
