TRiantis brothers both at Sydney Olympic, which while having a great history (so their website tells us) are not an A-League side, merely a mid-table New South Wales Premier side...

Guerendez was easily the best of the lot, as evidenced by him playing the full 90. If he wasn't so old I'd have said he was a cert for a contract, but with Wilder's focus on youth then I'm not so sure. Martin was pretty poor and far too lightweight for the physical side of the game, getting battered all over the park by the Brackley back line. The Aussie bros were okay but didn't really do owt spectacular and I can't see them featuring again; they were certainly no better than what we already have.

And this is the official Rage Online view (so it must be correct).

Guerendez would be a good signing on last night's showing. Wilder may offer him something if the price is right but I can't see a lot of wages being thrown at a man his age. Shame really.

Nice to see the Rageonline sponsorship having an immediate effect on Owen............. Rolling Eyes

The Rage Online Blog features a (slightly) more in-depth look at the four triallists.

Surely Wilder knew his age before playing him, though? Why give him a trial if you have no intention of signing him? I would welcome an experienced player that can pass the ball in the team, to keep their head and move the ball around properly if and when the younger players are starting to panic and hoof it. It would certainly make a nice change from experienced players that can't pass the ball, like Barry Quinn and Chris Hargreaves...

Interesting to note that Felipe Guréndez was heavily involved in both the pre-match and half-time warms ups tonight, even though he wasn't on the team sheet as a subsitute. I wonder if he might be being considered for some sort of coaching role, or if my theory on the blog is correct, that maybe they want an experienced player to go alongside the kids for the reserves?

The idea of an experienced player had crossed my mind too. Though this was limited to who could have played at Brackley instead of the trialists, not planning for the reserve campaign.

There is a case for an extra midfielder. Bulman, Heslop and Hall seem likely to start the season. This leaves Clist, Baker and plus one to start for the reserves, assuming they play the same formation.

First point of call should be the scholars. However there is a rationale to plan in XI’s; firsts, reserves and youths with players stepping up as required. Not that comments of a 20/21 man squad support this.

The trial and release of Crockford could suggest there is such a need and support that Wilder is looking for something different to the young, athletic and hungry profile.

Budget is another issue. With Franks signed. The club might already be in a contingency fund.

I think Wilder is just covering all options with Clist and Baker injured. If all players are only doing 45 minutes against City, 22 are obviously required.

Finally if an experienced midfielder is required in the reserves, for example if Clist is unavailable, Chrissy Allen could do a job. Only 3 years older than Gurendez, has played for North Leigh the last few seasons; so fitness is fine, and knows more about the opposition than someone who has never played in this country before.
