Oxford lost again, this time going down 2-0 at Brentford with two second half goals from Owusu and Powell. Mark Watson returned from injury to shore up the defence, with Les Robinson moving to right back and Rob Folland being rested. Second half substitutions were Jamie Lambert coming on for Peter Fear and Ben Abbey for Steve Anthrobus. Anthrobus and Matt Murphy were booked for United. The match report is no clearer.
Oxford United were drawn at home to Morecambe in the first round of the FA Cup – why does this fill us with trepidation? Oxford City were rewarded with an away derby against Wycombe and if Witney had beaten Yeovil they would have been travelling to Reading.
Dean Windass scored his first Premiership goal for Bradford City, but they still lost at Wimbledon. Darren Purse scored his second in a week for Birmingham. Jim Magilton was sent off as Ipswich crashed at home.
