Oxford beat Bristol City 3-0 in a bizarre match at the Manor. United went in at half time with a two goal lead courtesy of two strikes by Joey Beauchamp, both following errors from City goalkeeper Steve Phillips. Derek Lilley completed the scoring midway in the second half again following a goalkeeping mistake. Jamie Cook came on for Jamie Lambert and Ben Abbey made his debut with about ten minutes remaining, replacing an inspirational Lilley. The match report might be worth reading.
Former United players who made the headlines(?) over the weekend include Jim Magilton and Martin Foyle, who both scored for Ipswich and Port Vale respectively but who both finished on the losing side, and David Leworthy who continued his impressive scoring run for Kingstonian, consolidating their position at the top of the Conference. Nigel Jemson scored two more for Ayr United, one of them a penalty. Dean Windass has again been linked with a move from Bradford City to Wolves, only this time the price quoted is £1.2 million. Matt Elliott is to be charged with misconduct by the FA after he showed Michael Owen who was boss and goalkeeper Lance Key was sent off for Northwich Victoria.
