On Wembley way

Oxford moved into the second round of the Auto Windscreen Shield tonight, beating Luton 2-0 thanks to two penalties from Paul Powell. As expected Mickey Lewis used this game as an opportunity for some small experimentation: Neil McGowan moved to left centre back, with Phil Whelan moving inside in place of Mark Watson. Powell took over McGowan's left wing back duties and Peter Fear replaced Rob Folland at right wing back. Jamie Cook partnered the Bus up front and Simon Weatherstone replaced Matt Murphy in midfield to join his brother Ross, becoming the first brothers since etc etc… With about fifteen minutes or so remaining a double substitution saw Ben Abbey on for Jamie Cook and Dean Whitehead making his first team debut, replacing Joey Beauchamp. Once a U, always a U?

According to the Oxford Mail Robin Herd is relaunching his formula one racing company March and is bidding to fill the vacant twelfth place for the 2001 season, and is seeking Arab backing. His racing ambitions are possibly the reason behind his withdrawal of interest in United, and almost certainly the reason behind his lack of investment toward the end of his time in charge.
Marco Gabbiadini scored Darlington's second, but they were beaten by an injury time goal in Stoke.
