Mickey Lewis has announced that former Centre of Excellence supremo Les Taylor is to be his number two whilst he is caretaker manager. Presumably this is why there is a coaching gap which has been filled this week by ticket office maestro Rage On Sponsored Darren Bowler, passing on his Oxford Exiles Sunday League talent to the adoring masses.
Another name today thrown into the hat for the Oxford hot-seat is former Liverpool goalkeeper Ray Clemence, joining just about every out of work manager, wannabe manager and anyone with an Oxford link as a potential candidate. Apparently Jim Smith was seen up the Manor yesterday, although whether it was to discuss the vacancy or Mark Watson is unclear (although if it's the latter option that would tie in with the Malcolm Crosby sighting). The eventual appointment will probably be someone else entirely (maybe ROS Darren Bowler?), or not. In order to reflect the rapid changes in speculation Rage Online has ended the first poll and has now published an updated version. For the record the original vote was won by Nigel Spackman with 26%, followed closely by Jim Smith with 24%. Mickey Lewis received 8%, as did Colin Todd and Steve Cotterill.
According to Sky Sports Morecambe (“The Shrimpers”) are expecting to bring about a thousand supporters to the Manor on Saturday, and seem fairly upbeat about their chances too. Steve Davies and Paul Tait will both miss the game through suspension.
Martin Aldridge's loan spell at Port Vale has come to an end and he has returned to Blackpool.
