Benjamin John Purkiss. Sheffield-born right-back signed on a two-year contract from York City on 21 May 2010. Bizarrely for a footballer he has a law degree, gained from York College of Law, and was selected to represent GB in the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia in July 2009. Also called up for the England C squad in February 2009, but had to withdraw through injury. Was released from his Oxford contract on 24th January 2012, having not played for United that season, and promptly signed a short-term deal with Hereford United. In November 2017, Purkiss was named as chair of the PFA.
