Barry Scott Quinn, born Dublin, signed permanently for United from Coventry in the Summer of 2004, following a very successful loan spell at the end of the previous season. Quinn played for the Republic of Ireland under-18 team which won the European Championship in 1998, and has also been capped at under 21 and full international levels. Quinn is a creative midfielder who linked up well with Dean Whitehead in the short period they played together. Quinn struggled during the 2005/06 season, partly because he was playing alongside Chris Hargreaves and Lee Mansell, who both have similar styles to his own, although when he played at right back he shone. Quinn was one of just three players to be offered a new contract for the 2006/07 season, and was the first one to accept the offer. Signed another year-long deal the following summer, too, having won the Players Player of the Season award for 06/07. Quinn, now mostly playing as a centre-back, was made the captain for the 2007/08 season, and in January 08 he signed a one-year extension to his contract. He was released at the end of the 2008/09 season as part of Chris Wilder's cull. Ireland Youth international, 17 Ireland Under-21 caps, 4 Ireland caps.
